If we kept the current squad intact

maybe because they are more consistent and better teams in the league. I think we will get top six but top 2 will be hard, personally I would say we are slightly weaker this season but will have to wait until end of window to know for sure
I would also say that the league is weaker this season.....there will be no team running away with it that's for sure.....I looked at the West Brom team the other night and I couldn't see a single player that would get into our first 11.....I wouldn't swap many of our players with those from Sheffield Utd or Fulham either.
We're all moaning about no new signings but I don't see any if our rivals making any yet either....... Even with the squad we have now we won't be far away.

We’re arguably stronger in certain areas, but severally lacking in others. We’ve gone from an international keeper to a relative youth with very few games under his belt, we’ve lost an international defender in CCV, and we’ve gone from 3 strikers to 1. Additionally we’re all expecting our best attacking asset by far last season to leave the club.

If Danjuma stayed, we signed at least 1 striker, a keeper and another defender then I think you’d see far more of the “anything but top 2 is a failure” comments. As it is right now we’re lacking in some key areas for that to be the case,
We didn't start last season with CCV and King and Surridge contributed nothing tbh.....and yet we were in the top six for pretty much the whole season.

We didn’t start last season with CCV but then we’re not starting this season with S Cook, L Cook, Pearson, Lerma, Danjuma, Begovic. I don’t see how anyone can possibly believe the squad starting this season is stronger than the one that started last.

Keeper is the real worry. Even if Travers is played I feel we could do with a late in career experienced keeper to encourage and make Travers more competitive.
The youngsters coming in look good and if they can keep their form for the season then I think top six is not a problem.
I honestly don't think Travers has been too bad in the first two games, we need another keeper to compete obviously.

The two Cooks are still here along with Pearson and Lerma and they'll be fit to play in the near future ... We're not thinking that short term surely.

I was responding to your suggestion that CCV doesn’t count because he didn’t start last season and giving you the same view on this season….

Our squad was overpowered last season; now that we have a manager that has actually had success in the past (or even managed a team before), with ideas and a new coaching team etc, even losing key players I think we’re in a stronger position. Plus, even if it’s only one or two new players there are still signings to come in.

So easy to forget that since the start of last season we’ve also lost Simpson, Gosling, Ofoborh and Rico. The squad last season was probably on the larger size for the Championship but by my reckoning that means that since the start of last season we’ve lost:

Begovic
King
Surridge
Ofoborh
Gosling
Simpson
Rico
CCV

With Danjuma also likely to leave, that’s 9 first teamers we’ll have lost. The squad last year was good enough for the top 2, if we make 2-3 signings in the key areas we need them then you’d say this year should be good enough for top 6. The mgmt team we now have in place gives me much greater confidence that the squad will reach its potential, or maybe even better it.

I am not going to bore you with re-presenting the facts but how many minutes they played and what they contributed was far more important than having a heart beat attached to a pair of boots.

It wasn't just that CCV didn't start the season, but more he missed the entire first half for example, plus we only need an extra CB if you think that we are going to pick up 2 injuries and want to play three at the back.

With players likely to be back soon, then the only real debate is Travers and whether we ride our luck with limited cover for Dom.

You have to assume the club will replace Danjuma if he goes, and how much they spend and on who will tell us their ambitions.

On Travers I think the better comparison is Vs Ramsdale because if we were happy with him then I think we should be with Travers. Plus, we shouldn't be judging if Travers is good enough to rescue us when the defense gives soft chances, too often, but be questioning why with such a great shot stopper, we aren't defending differently.

Overall based on how few minutes those that left played, I am not worried, not just hoping for top 6 but hoping for top 2. Just need to see the final transfer moves.

I must have missed your facts on minutes played so apologies.

I’m not saying we need numbers for the sake of it, on the contrary, I’m saying that in order to sustain a promotion bid we need more quality and depth. Parker has said it himself, so I’m not really sure what the debate is here. Surely he’s best placed to assess?

I agree that Rambo is a fairer comparison for Travers than Bego. I still think Rambo has more confidence, especially when coming for crosses but Travers is a better penalty saver. Always useful when you have Kelly, Smithy and Cookie in your defence (no disrespect intended to them).

Striker is top of the list for me.given time I think travers can grow into a commanding keeper biut goals win games and we need to find s Wilson from somewhere

Callum Robinson is good... that finish was brilliant.

The depth of the squad has been vastly reduced no doubt, but you could argue that the squad was bloated in certain areas last season so this isn’t always necessarily a bad thing. If we add a decent goal keeper/back up striker and keep Danjuma then anything other than top 2 would again be a disappointment imo. As it stands we can’t expect even top six with only one senior striker and no championship ready goal keeper.

Closest thing in terms of playing style is JCH of Peterborough. At 27 though quite a bit older than Callum when he signed.

I’m astounded that you rate Solanke higher than Callum Robinson.
