Matchday Programs

What's happened to these?!
They used to be some of the best programs I'd seen at any ground. Nice and thick and properly bound.
So far this season they seem a bit thin and are held together by a couple of staples!

Noticed this at two away games too. Programme sales have been waning for a few years now as younger generations access more stuff online and less paper. So less sales equals a need to cost cut. Trouble is it will only accelerate sales decline as I won’t be buying them again either now and I’m of a generation that would.

Sad but destined to go the way of printed fanzines and be rare as rocking horse s*** in five years time mark my words!

I'm part of the younger generation but it's something I've always done and have a program collection going back about 8 years!
But yeah totally agree won't be buying anymore I don't think

Not had them in Italy for at least 30 years. I remember being quite disappointed when I went to a game in Rome, (a) not to have a team sheet and (b) not to have a souvenir of the night. I bought a few in the first PL season but at £3 a pop not really worth the money.

On a slightly different tack I was rifling through some old ones from the 60’s and 70’s before having a clear out and it was interesting looking at some of the opposition team sheets and remembering some of the players we’d seen at Dean Court. Some up and coming (Neville Southall, Bruce Grobbelar) and others on the way out. (Bobby Charlton, Nobby Stiles and Roger Hunt). Anybody remember any other ‘names’ from the past ?

I vowed not to buy any more after the first game back but there I was buying one again after my 21 year old lad moaned that we always get one so why stop now.

I don't mind it being thinner and not padded out with dozens of moody pics of players on the beach or wherever, but a programme without fixtures and results in it is not a proper programme at all. That has to be one of the staple ingredients. Come on Editor, sort it out!

I used to always buy the first programme of the season as it had all the results and info from previous season. No sign of that this year.

This season'e programme is very poor as has been said not even the basics of a fixture list. Thinking back to the quality Mick Cunningham and Neil Vacher used to produce in the days of no money in the club with all the resources available now a pretty poor performance.

Remember a young lad coming in for Scunthorpe United who went on to play for England… where he took a load of wickets v Australia among others!!!

Have always bought a program and was v disappointed with the WBA one - almost an “ afterthought “ of a program .
I hope it improves and I hope clubs still produce them to a decent level - not everyone wants to have everything on digital format !

Whilst buying patterns means less people buy programmes at a game, m60 programmes reported how much demand there is for current season issues.

I think that the exclusion of fixture and tables (and even date on cover) is to ensure programmes can be issued if games are postponed due to covid.

I was happy with the smaller behind closed doors style from last season that gives collectors something from each game.

this season’s issue is dreadful

Comparing programmes so far this season, ours is far better the Birmingham's but worse than Forest's. Only fixture list and season's line ups is in Forest's, even their programme wouldn't be considered for any awards in seasons past, ours definitely won't, Brums will if there's wooden spoons awarded : )
So far the standards are lower than previous seasons, anyone thinking, "shall I, shan't I", won't : )
