Oh Dom

I think that that Blackpool manager sussed out our manager and put us to the sword in 2nd half and we were lucky to come away with a point!

style of football

although we were on front foot first half, Blackpool missed 3 great chances first half too

I missed this thread at the weekend. Am I the only one who thinks it was an excellent tackle by the defender but that the GK then caught Dom? Definite penalty for me.

Wouldn’t want to see it given against us.

On some occasions just praise the excellent tackle.

Solanke scores two excellent goals has shown great form, ran himself into the ground to link play and drag defenders out of position but let’s have a new thread to concentrate on the apparent easiest chance of the lot…

I think from where I was sat it was a good tackle and Dom took a second too long .
2 great finished in the game and that header last minute he was unlucky

When writing post-match maybe I should have found an existing thread about Dom. I apologise. I'm sure you could merge it though ;)

It's a reoccurring trait of his, scores difficult chances and misses easier ones. Not the only forward who does that and I'm not the first person to make that observation, but it seemed comment worthy given what we'd just seen.

I'd like the club to concentrate on giving Dom some help with another strike option, so that he doesn't have to run himself into the ground for 90 mins every game. Lest we be forced play without him for some reason and get absolutely battered.

You still think that was the easiest chance of the three?
Yes.

The podcast chaps made the point better, tuck the ball to the keeper's left and job done. In comparison you've seen the angle/distance on the first? Superb finish. And how many headers has Dom ever scored for us? Not his forte.

Doesn’t mean the header was difficult though.

Well yes, take a world-class tackle out of the equation and he should score...which I'm sure he would have done.

This looks pretty conclusive to me, especially when the clip shows that Dom had touched the ball away from the keeper a split second before this.

A tackle which only arrives because once put through one-on-one he unfortunately makes the call to go on his left, passing up the opening to shoot the other way. If you take that out of the equation then I can see what you say...

He's on his left foot because at pace and after nutmegging the defender that's the side of goal that he's going, the defender is also on the right of him, so if he tried to open up to take it on his right the defender would have had an easier tackle to make and he would have lost the momentum of pace and got his feet in a muddle.

But apart from that...

That is quite a damning still but stills can be misleading. In real time I was calling for a pen like everyone else, but maybe a bit half-heartily? One of those where you'd be mad if it were given against us.

Think it was Zemura who had a good case for a penalty turned down up the other end, no idea what that was about.

I've gone away and tried to find the highlights and see it back afresh, but neither AFCB's nor SSN's contain the chance unfortunately. From memory I just don't see it like that I'm afraid! I thought / think he has sufficient opportunity to edge right and open up to the keeper's left, before the covering defender is close enough.

Doesn’t mean the header was difficult though.
Now this is on the highlights. Near post with 2 defenders and the keeper covering the area, to get low down and direct it to the empty far post. Yes it's harder! Especially for a forward who isn't the strongest scoring headers.

He had less time to think about it than all those analysing it second by second.
If we all stopped doing that then MOTD pundits would be out of business.... :)

I didn’t say stop but just consider the time aspect.

It's not really that conclusive because he's going down from the tackle from the defender not the goalkeeper. The touch from the goalkeeper alone wouldn't have brought him down.

The touch from the goalkeeper doesn’t need to bring him down for it to be a foul IMO (although in this case I think the keeper definitely contributes to Dom going down). If a keeper comes charging out like that and makes contact with the attacker but not the ball, that’s a penalty for me.

The new laws are more lenient, thankfully, so does he go down as a consequence of the touch by the ‘keeper? No, he’s going down because of the contact with the defender, who won the ball.

There’s no way I’d want that given against us.

He had too much time tbf.....some strikers struggle with those sort of chances....Dom is one of those imo.... he's better with an instinctive finish where he doesn't have time to over complicate things.
An ice cool finisher like Danjuma would have taken that ball to the edge of the area and slotted it past the keeper .....just like he did in the play off semi final.

I think his goal V Birmingham and his Blackpool first suggest otherwise.
