Thoughts on the match V Sheff Utd

I've pointed out negatives in some of the recent performances but this time I'm full of praise. In a match between two sides containing both quality and battlers, and with the elements having their say, we needed to be strong and brave as well as good on the ball. And we were.

At the end of a season, it's matches like this you sometimes look back on and say that is where the season was won/lost. It feels like a real endorsement of the work being done.

The resolute solidity at the back is something we haven't seen at AFCB for... actually, I can't remember when we saw it last. Pre-Howe for sure.

Top of the table? Check

Well played the team. Because that's what that was. A team win. Well done to the management as well.

Honourable mention to Billing for one of the most satisfying sliding tackles/blocks I've seen in a long time.

Positives: Pearson (immense), Christie (creative and battling) and Cahill (so organised, we should call him the filofax)

Room to improve: I don't want to single anyone out from a great team performance.

Way too positive… surely there’s something people can find to knock Parker for. Let’s wait for the Xg report or something that shows we really lost…;)

No such luck Neil, I'm waiting for it to be finalised, but we are ahead on the xG. (1.68 to 1.24). Sounded tense near the end. Shame I'm in isolation or else I might have enjoyed seeing my Blades-supporting friends.

Expected goals has us about 15th at the moment, so we're statistically over performing by quite some distance and over the season it will even out so providing we stay at a similar level we’ll slide some way down the table. Added to the fact Fulham got progressively more turgid under Parker as they got closer to Christmas and into early 2020, he’s not got Mitrović to bail him out of the hole he might find himself in.

All this talk of the quality of Fulham and West brom squads, but ours isn't half bad. Lerma and Pearson in midfield, cahill at the back, dom and Phil. Not to mention the players on the bench or to come back in

Cherries bloom as they deal Blades the cutting edge
Bournemouth continued as the only unbeaten Championship team after two goals in three second-half minutes was enough to come from behind and steal all three points against a disheartened Sheffield United side.

That’s more like it!! Comfortably hovering around relegation by Easter, I’m with TopFarrier let’s bin him now to save time! He may have sorted the second half out but that wasn’t a perfect first half…

….thats rich given the negatives you have dished out against Eddie over the last few years!

fantastic character today against awkward opponents and in terrible weather. Bonus was seeing West Brom and Fulham play so badly

lets be honest though - we got lucky with the pen as it was outside area while their goal disallowed maybe was harsh. Makes up for the handball incident when they got a last gasp equaliser in 19/20

sometimes need a bit of luck and fantastic to see the effort put in. Finally had to dig in after falling behind for the first time

Hopefully some much needed rest for some of the squad now.

The more Parker puts his stamp on the team, the worse we’ll get. We’ve been getting by on having a talented squad and how we played together last season under Woodgate.

If I had to give a negative, it's that when we park the bus we really invite a lot of pressure and crosses, but that's also a trend we've seen in previous games. Caveat to it being that we've generally been resolute in those circumstances, so as long as we only do it to protect a lead instead of hanging on to a draw, I'm happy.

Excellent work all around by the team, since no one has mentioned him yet I'll give a shoutout to Dom for showing the willingness to run in behind, winning the (possibly outside the box) penalty and putting it away, and the nice link up to give Zemura a great chance.

Others have mentioned him already, but also really happy with how Christie has been fitting into the team, first game or two with us were a bit slow, but now that he's up to speed he's showing a lot of fight and creativity, just what we want.
