Non - Ukraine

Honest question looking for an honest answer. Do you accept that you've been told many times that we take a small fraction of refugees in Europe. Do you not believe the statistics or do you simply lie to yourself to justify your view of the world?

Not to mention the fact that we have made so many migrants feel unwelcome that they have left, and we now have a massive key worker shortage.

F#ck me ! Give the Ukrainian families a chance to Bury some of their Fathers, husbands , brothers and sons before you start on this sort of crap.

Yep and do they want to come to our glorious land? Of course they don't. It's not their choice.

I've been to France many times, work and leisure.....yes they have a colossal amount of immigrants and refugees, but it is a much bigger landmass and is further south..and nearer to troubled Nations.
There is nothing wrong of course with taking in refugees but there are safe limits if chaos is to be avoided.

Every country should do their bit to help. Isn't just about land mass. It's about services and infrastructure too. If we all do our bit rather than making excuses to not accept those in need, there won't be a problem helping people to resettle.

Brian, Denmark is a part of Scandinavia.
And I am sure Germany will take refugees too.
Yep I completely forgot Denmark is Scandinavia....but its the sort of unforgivable error one makes on a Forum when poking the keys in a rush..
. .I tend to overlook those geographical gaffes generally when others make them...but this is 'AFCB' Forum so I need to buck up !

Even as the Russians invaded Trump said what a clever move it was. Trump and Farage both have stated they were admirers of Trump. Fox news ste apologists for the Kremlin. And it was said the left are the friends of the Commies ...

I just don’t think they’d have the heart to fight. They really don’t have much in place to defend or fight back especially for small insignificant countries ( on the world stage) like the baltics. I can’t see the Germans and French racing to help out especially is vlad turns the gas and oil off. I could well be wrong and guessing what a loon like putin might do is not easy

Stark reality. .we have 200 tanks ..Germans abd French bout 250 tanks each ...Russia has 13,000

Quick Google, it's not good...

Land Power
Here too, the numbers are stacked heavily in Russia's favour – Global Firepower lists the following figures:

Britain: tanks: 227; AFVs or armoured vehicles: 5,015; self-propelled guns: 89; towed artillery: 126; rocket projectors: 44.

Russia: tanks: 12,420; armoured vehicles: 30,122; self-propelled artillery: 6,574; towed artillery: 7,571; rocket projectors: 3,391.

https://www.forces.net/news/russia-...420; armoured,7,571; rocket projectors: 3,391.

Air Power
The MOD listed 555 fixed-wing aircraft, 285 drones and 301 helicopters as being in it possession as of 2021, with these being spread around the RAF, the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm and the Army Air Corps.

These include 137 Typhoon and 21 F-35B Lightning fighter aircraft.

Russia, meanwhile, has 4,173 aircraft in total, according to Global Firepower.

These breakdown as 772 fighter/interceptor aircraft; 739 dedicated attack aircraft; 445 transport aircraft; 20 tankers, 132 for special missions, 1,543 helicopters, including 544 attack helicopters; and 522 training aircraft.

Naval Power
The UK has a total fleet of 76 naval vessels, or 87 if one counts the 11 vessels in the RFA (Royal Fleet Auxiliary).
These vessels break down as follows: Aircraft Carriers: 2; Destroyers: 6; LPD (Landing Platform Docks): 2; Frigates: 12; Survey Ships: 4; Mine Countermeasure vessels: 11; Mine Threat Exploitation vessels: 2; Offshore Protection Vessels: 8; Coastal Forces Squadron: 14; Ballistic Missile Submarines: 4; other submarines: 6; Faslane Patrol Boats: 2; Gibraltar Patrol Boats: 2; RFA vessels: 11; and 1 Ice Patrol Ship.
Russia, meanwhile, has only 1 aircraft carrier, the Admiral Kuznetsov. However, it has 70 submarines, as well as 15 destroyers, 11 frigates, 86 corvettes, 59 patrol vessels and 49 vessels for submarine warfare. In total it has 605 vessels.

In our recent integrated defence reforms, the top brass were advising the treasury that the days of tank warfare were now over. This week may make them think again! Hell if I know. It doesn't need a major-general to point out that tanks are only as good as the air cover protecting them. Though the Tory MPs recently talking about imposing a no fly zone over Ukraine are probably in cloud cuckoo land.

USA aside no NATO nation spends enough to act by themselves, not even ourselves and France who do at least try. It's all designed to act in lockstep with other nation's spending. Is there an appetite to increase military spending? Putin's actions may just poke NATO members into a shift of spend priorities in future years, not that it helps today of course.

Don't think we'll be "kicking Russia's backside" (our Defence Secretary, Ben Wallace) anytime soon.

Numbers are great, but the VAST majority (over 8000) are old tanks retired from service and not used for years. They might as well be driving around in Toyota pickups for all the good the armour would do them. Thats if they could get them working. Tanks are notoriously difficult to maintain.

Dont forget to add the Bovington collections to the UK numbers...
