January transfer window 2023, what do we need?

Yes, let's just change foreigners names to what they 'should be' in English.

Sorry Roger, but that's a bit 1985.

So Juventus sign him for €18.5m, over four seasons he is only picked to appear in about half their league matches. They decide he isn't going to make the grade and do want to sell him... for over double the fee they paid. Right.

No idea if there's anything in this but if a deal is to be done we need to negotiate hard. Juventus want him off their wage bill and to raise funds. However, we aren't their piggy bank.

Sounds like we'd be bailing out Juventus by taking him off their hands.
Not sure I'd be happy about that. It's not our job to get them out of the financial mess they find themselves in. They'd be screwing us over at that price, surely ?
I can see how Foley would see getting him as a statement of intent, a new era, an American to keep the States fans interested in AFCB etc. but surely there are better ways we could be spending that sort of money ?

Its always a sellers market in the January window :(

You beat me to it ! Quite agree !

I quite like our right back Adamo Fabbro, even if he goes down a little easily. And our midfield fulcrum Alvise Cucinare is also pretty handy.

I'd say a player appearing in half of juves over 2 or 3 years is generally a positive indication of his ability, for clubs like us hoping to sign him. Unlikely chiesa of vhlovic would be intersted in joining us... and they'd probably cost 60 to 80 mill each.

Fee is on high side, but he's a better player compared to 3 years back when he signed from schalke, plus inflation in market since. Probably can get lower than what's quoted, and who knows how accurate it is anyway, but I'd certainly expect to pay more. Schalke deal was 18.5 plus another 7.5 in addons, which shortens it further...apparently they also paid 4.5 mill for season long loan too before they made it permanent. To me shows his potential/ability as they worked with him for a whole season, so not a wild card purchase.

Not sure what price you expect to get him for, but I don't think it's that extreme, everything considered.

Perhaps as replacement for their US 'wonderkid' Reyna who moves to us.... now he woukd be a good signing.

I wonder if there will be a slight bias towards us signing US players...
I was just thinking that. It would be a sure fire way to make us most Americans' favourite PL football club, that's for sure. And the thought of that probably puts big dollar signs into Bill's eyes. I wouldn't like to see us restrict our recruitment in that way and they probably don't have enough players of PL quality but if we can get a good mix in with a few of the very best American players, it could be huge for our profile in the USA !

Whatever we need to back Gary and his judgement and hopefully we can strengthen the spine of the team from defence through to attack…tbh there doesn’t seem to be a lot around domestically so we may need to shop abroad?….
Amrabat from Fiorentina would be a great signing….
