Gary O'Neil

Totally baffling array of substitutions today. Dango and Anthony on the same wing ? Rothwell off, Solanke drops deep for Moore, Billing drops even deeper. With Stephens out on Thursday why not give Senesi or the Ukrainian bloke a run for half an hour - the game was lost by then anyway.
I had been coming round to GON but I think he is still struggling.

16 weeks ago I posted this. It would be funny if it wasn’t so embarrassing.
People going back in history to find moments when they were right. A distinct and positive movement from only going back to find other peoples wrong predictions. Now all we need is people going back in time to find their own wrong predictions and apologise and we will have reached true enlightenment on here. ;)

Yes agreed subs and formation 2nd half was a bit baffling. Maybe Rothwell was injured as some suggest, but Moores not played in weeks, and Anthony totally wasted at RB.

I think Gary did a lot today to settle the manager question for next season. Bill Foley was on hand, and seemed in a happy mood when shown on the broadcast, but I think (and personally hope) the football people will be advising him to make a change even if we stay up. It would be harsh, but fair.

If the defense improves markedly from now to the end, I might change my stance. But he'll have to show me.
…how when he’s not on the pitch? I’m pretty sure many of the errors we keep making are being addressed in training but if the quality and intelligence on the pitch isn’t there when these situations arise (albeit we’ve yet to see Zabarnyi who will hopefully be an improvement) then little GON can do until the end of the season.

It's absolutely ridiculous to be so sh*t at defending set pieces. Such a fundamental part of the game and they haven't got close to addressing it. We'd be comfortably mid table by now if we were just marginally better at defending set pieces, if we were just awful rather than atrocious.

Beating the first man with a corner kick is handy as well.

(don't worry I'm just joining in the general post defeat malaise)

where were shite at taking set pieces how can we practise defending them if the ball goes to first man constantly in training, as soon as opposition play it over first man all our training is a waste

That's just it: I'm not so sure they are being addressed in training. Anything they might be doing does not seem to translate to the pitch. If the players can't or won't execute what they are coached to do, they need to be dropped. This stuff is important, especially to a frequently overmatched side.

Journos need to go after him for it. It's not just unfortunate it's a pattern of failure spanning the entire season. O'Neil has got way more grief than he's deserved over the season but not on this point.
