When Was The Last Time...

When was the last time we were in a higher division than Saints? In fact, have we EVER been in a higher league than them ?

Maybe this is an historic opportunity for AFCB ? In the same way that for decades SFC siphoned off support from the Bournemouth/Dorset area, when they were a top tier outfit and we were lower league, maybe now the trend could be reversed ?

Build that new stadium now Mr. Foley !

A bit premature maybe, they may only be gone a season. Anyway, I’m sure we’ve got plenty of existing fans to fill that new stadium..

If, or more probably when, Saints are relegated and if, as seems likely, we stay up then this will be the first time that we have been in a higher league. However neither is certain yet and I don’t want to tempt fate.

Well, we are currently 66/1 to go down, while Saints are 20/1 on to get relegated. I think we can begin to feel quietly confident, don't you?

Heck this is a moment in history for AFCB !

For any kind of shift like that to happen, we would have to be in a higher division for many, many years. Something that won’t happen as the parachute payments should enable them to bounce straight back at the first or second attempt, whilst we would have to remain punching above our weight and not go down.

If it happens I’ll enjoy the moment and the season, but it’ll just be a brief novelty.

Given the state of Saints squad and the people they have running the club, it’s far from guaranteed that they will bounce straight back up imo. I’d fancy the other two going down over them, whoever they are.

Sheffield United went down on 20 points just two seasons ago and have already won promotion with games to spare.

The gap has widened since covid.

Coventry a shambles of a club off the field, have only just secured a home stadium for the next five seasons (yesterday) could go up via the play-offs.

Southampton are not in any worse shape than either of those two clubs.

Yep. Squads packed with overseas players constructed by agents don’t tend to fare well in the championship. They will also lose JWP and that dreadlocked lad in midfield who was decent and maybe a couple others. Parachute payments will be needed to sort owners debt out. I would be absolutely amazed if they are back in the PL anytime soon should,as seems likely, they go down.

Have they got any half-decent players we could take off their hands ?

Like Leeds did?

West Brom, Watford and Norwich must all be due to come back up.
Clubs without PP can’t compete apparently, yet all the play off places are currently occupied by teams without PP.
Baffling.

There are a few clubs that could potentially flounder in the championship. Southampton are run by idiots currently, they have a terrible squad full of unproven youth buys and old, mediocre, overpaid players. No manager either.

Everton are obviously in a shambles. Horribly bloated squad, FFP, clown owner. Most of their fans think they’ll be in league one sooner than back in the PL if they go down.

Can’t imagine Forest will have a good go of it either, given the amount they’ve spent on “good on paper” players that’ll want to jump ship straight away.
