Lloyd Kelly

Kelly is the best 1 on 1 defender we have. His distribution is not great but we would be weaker without him. I think it is most unfair how some of supporters give him a hard time, so I anticipate he would welcome a move. Still the boo boys will be happy.

Kelly once had the makings of a fantastic player, but for some reason I personally think he confidence is shot and he isn't a proactive defender anymore.

I think Senesi is more front foot but does lack pace and can get caught so it's swing and roundabouts as to who gets picked. If he is still here I would expect Kelly to get the nod against the Bees purely for his pace.

I'd prefer we keep Kelly full stop, and if the only alternative is Dier then that makes up my mind further to keep Kelly. Rather a developing player than an ageing declining one

My opinion is based purely on the fact he’s out of contract at the end of the season. Successful clubs are not build by continually allowing valuable assets to leave for free. If he won’t sign a new deal, which he won’t because he deserves better than the large moronic sections of our fan base who don’t recognise his obvious quality, then we should take the money and run. Reinvest it in another player on a long contract. Letting three first team regulars leave for free in the space of a year is criminal, and is exactly how NOT to run a sustainable top flight club. We’ve already suffered this season by having to invest circa £40m to replace our left back and centre mid, with no money coming in in return. And as a result we have had to neglect the area of the team that really needed addressing ie the attack. This cannot keep happening. Sign a new deal or sell are the only rational options.

So 3 first team regulars, I assume you mean lerma and zemura, who's the 3rd?
Not sure they could have done much more re zemura, Lerma gave us 5 years, but you never rated him

Personally I don’t rate him at all. Positionally poor, distribution poor. Too negative at LB for the style we are looking to play. Too much of a liability at CB. Cant see Spurs being interested, but if we can get what we paid for him we should move him on.

Pace pace pace, no matter how many times you say it, it didn't turn Bolt into a footballer...

Pace is just one of many core physical attributes that can add to or detract from a players game. Senesi would be a better player if he was quicker, but him being slower doesn’t make him worse than Kelly overall. Pace can hide flaws, and a lack of pace can make players better in other areas to compensate.

Kelly, the guy this thread is about.

How long he have is is irrelevant, what is relevant is the fact that he was allowed to run his contract down and leave for free. When a player leaves for free you have to spend a chunk of the budget replacing him, and the areas that you really need to strengthen become neglected.

lerma wanted silly money, JZ very poorly advised
weird how average players become world beaters as soon as they leave on frees
You are totally missing the point, as you often do.

I didn’t once mention their abilities as players. The point is that they were allowed to leave for free, well run clubs do not allow their first team players to leave for free.

Yeah I agree. I find it funny when some on here suggest that we cant rid of player "X" because hes fast. Like Cannavaro being let go because another defender was quicker than him. I get it, it helps make up for mistakes...but maybe choose the players that make less mistakes in the first place.

I think I would sell him if Spurs were interested. A real shame, because imo he has all the fundamentals to be a top player. He’s a better player than Mings was at the time he was here imo, and Mings got “out of the rut of being here” and got into the England squad. The fans just haven’t taken to him for whatever reason, and I think this has slowly sapped him if his confidence.

I can 100% see him moving on and being fantastic. If we get a good fee for him then everybody wins.

Always thought Mings was a better player. Hes fast for starters...

He hasn't left yet, so its actually 2.
Christ let's panic about a year's time, maybe Dom will leave for free at the end of his contract
