Are we capable of playing the Iraola way?

I think the fixture list has screwed us more than just being a hard start. Confidence in football is huge and it’s clear a lot of players are very low on it. How often have we seen the same players look brilliant after a win or two after looking terrible in other periods.

Also surely people can now see Kelly is comfortably our best defender? I think Zab will be good but needs taking out of the firing line as soon as someone is fit.

Its a fair point mate. Its not like players are robots is it. You have to handle the hand you're dealt of course, but its far from ideal being given an opening 8 fixtures like that, compared to spread more evenly amongst so called more winnable games.

Thats the thing I've always mentioned about GON. He must have had something about him, players on side. If he was that useless, or not respected, theres no way the players would have bounced back after that absymal run for a couple of months, after the world cup.

One of the reasons its usually considered better to face promoted sides a couple of months or more into the season. They#';ve had their promotion confidence smashed/ebbed away, and the gulf in class becomes more apparent, versus meeting them in the first few games.

Confidence and losing Kelly are the two key things over the past game and a half.

Does Zabarnyi look worse alongside Senesi to when he’s with Kelly? (Kelly and Zabarnyi of course were far from the ideal pairing)

It was brain-dead to sign a player that no one else would touch because of injury issues, especially in a absolutely critical position where we have no back up
Pre season it was brain-dead to miss out of signing injured Jackson, now it's brain-dead to sign a player on an expiring release clause because he is injured.

Feels a bit more like a result hasn't gone out way triggering a search for a scapegoat.

It was January, but yes the inconsistency has managed to make us remarkably on the side of getting it wrong on both occasions.

Senesei I would call an entertaining footballer, all action and interesting to watch. Not a quality I personally like for a centre back. Mepham and Kelly when fit for me.

Indeed. People keep saying that other clubs pulled out of signing Tyler Adams, due to failing medicals.

Thats simply not true. Chelsea, decided to go for Caiceido and Lavia instead, for a start.

Adams deal was the right thing to do imo. (assuming his medical didn't highlight severe concern/risk).

For us, a very good player/deal, given current market rates. Theres plenty of other stuff Blake/Hughes deserve scrutiny over, I don;t think this falls into that bracket imo (assuming medical was 'green').

It's brain dead to replace Lerma with a player who has a history of being injured and who's actually injured when you sign him and at the same time get rid of Pearson so you have absolutely no cover if Cook gets injured, which is as likely as not. Also not clever to get rid of Stevens, who played well and would've brought plenty of experience.

Stephens wasn't our player.

Adams hasnt played and won't be for a long time if he is having an Op.

Whatever the reason...it cannot be seen as a good signing....paying wages for no return....

I'm not in the MONEY camp...far from it...but that is the stark fact of the situation....and could have been avoided by not signing a player already bloody injured...and prone to more.

A lot of beliefs get beggared on this and other football forums..Football is in such a Stupid Era generally.. but the belief beggaring at present at our club and on here is at the peak of a curve....only slightly less worse than what you find on the Manu and Leeds sites !

No history of injury which has been pointed out numerous times.

We needed better than Stephens but we didn’t sign anyone.

From the final purple period under O’Neil, Lerma and Stephens have left.

Kelly and Mepham are injured.

The only one to really come in is Zabarnyi who is now fully fit when during that period he was a bit part player.

Who are you having a go at now... people who are criticizing the Adams deal, or the (very few) people that aren't? Difficult to tell :D

With the current situation, it can't be classed as a good signing (that may change when he ewventually plays... although at this juncture, theres a chance we'l never see him. He'll like go out on loan to Leipzig or someone like that if we go down...).

At the time, it was the right decision imo, as I've outlined earlier.

With hindsight and current situ... he's not a decent signing.

Assuming nothing was flagged in his medical, its sadly one of those things. It has nothing to do with previous injuries, as already mentioned (in amongst the pitch forks and froffing).

I think individually we have enough CBs and left back cover but when you consider that Kelly is both we are definitely short. Usually you'd also have a promising young player as additional cover but we shipped Hill out. Hopefully Kelly and Mepham are back after the break as indicated by the manager.

I don't believe offering him as much as we could possibly afford would have kept him here. Anyway, maybe we already did.
The point is we have spent many millions trying and failing to replace him. So no matter how big his wage demands were, they would be much much less than the cost of trying to buy a replacement.
