AFCB v Liverpool - Fourth Round League Cup

I can't complain too much, on the whole. The boys tried to win all the way to the end. I do take exception to squandering a precious free kick by hoofing it into the stand. The instruction has to be "find Kieffer." Then you let the same guy take another one and also not try to find Kieffer. That makes no sense to me.

Brilliant performance! Only a world class finish seperated us and that was them at pretty much their strongest.
Loads of positives:
Radu needs to keep his place, very calm and so far (touch wood) no mistakes

Mepham needs to keep his place, solid winning everything in the air
Zabarnyi played well apart from that mistake which Kerkez rescued

Smudge had a very good game and did well bombing forwards and winning free kicks

Alex Scott keeps getting better and FINALLY WE HAVE A SET PIECE TAKER

Semenyo missed a sitter but looks so powerful and had a very good game

Billing was my MOM until he came off, he was all over the pitch and inning the ball for us so many times

Kluivert got better as the game went on and is brilliant on the break and has a go at the opposition (something we have lacked)

Tavernier looked arguably the best player on the pitch when he came on, nearly repeated his Fulham goal, beautiful crosses, skill and electric pace.

couple of negatives: Traore, perhaps feeling the pressure of the silly money we paid for him?
Why bring on Moore if you take off our set piece specialist and creative spark (Scott)?
Ref was a bit poor, ridiculous Dom wasn't given that free kick in the first half, he booked AI and when Klopp spent most of the first half having a go at the 4th official and then booking Scott for the yellow card mime.

Hopefully we have a few easier games in the FA cup to rotate the squad and experiment.

The reason Mepham is out of position is because Nunez mis controlled the initial pass....other than that I don't know what he could have done without the benefit of hindsight.....sometimes you've got to say 'too good'.
When Nunez mis controlled the pass Mepham should get out to him far quicker. Obviously he’s aware of Nunez’s pace but cannot let him come in to that area so easily.

Was thinking about the refereeing, I haven't found any issues with them in the past few games, once you look beyond your own Cherry bias.

20 minutes in, against one of the 'top teams' and suddenly it's clear as day the bias to the top teams.

Totally agree with you.
Liverpool's subs made them stronger. Our subs saw us lose virtually all the threat we carried beforehand.

Mepham isn't that type of defender....if he gets too close to Nunez initially Nunez would more than likely have got in behind him....Mepham is doing what a lot of managers would want him to do in that situation.

I thought Alex Scott did ten times more positive things than Phillip.

An encouraging performance with special mentions for Billing, Kluivert and Tavernier. Smith also solid.

Referee a joke as usual. Waved away foul after foul and there’s no way a Liverpool player gets booked for doing what Scott did.

Traore disappointing. Kerkez a liability at times but still young with lots of potential.

Play like that on Saturday and I’ll be happy whatever the result.

So you’re saying that when Nunez’s poor touch forces him 12 yards wider than he wanted Mepham was correct in letting him carry the ball unchallenged to the edge of the 18yard box? Where he becomes 10 times more dangerous than 5 metres from the touch line - absolute nonsense and certainly NOT what other managers would want. If Solanke gets the ball in that area facing the Liverpool goal Gomez/Matip get touch tight to him immediately.

I hate losing, especially to these shitty global superclubs but that said I was quite pleased with tonight.

It really felt like you could see what the manager wants them to do and in the main they did it. We were the better side for large parts of that game with most of the players performing well.

I wondered if Scott was going to struggle with the step up in quality from Burnley but he settled into the game brilliantly and looked the part.

Semenyo and Kluivert were really positive and I thought the defence was decent.

Other than Tavernier the subs were poor though. None of Moore, Brooks or Traore will force their way into the side with that performance, sure the whole team looked disjointed at that point and Liverpool had brought on their strongest players but still none of them did anything of note.
