Non - What to watch?

Just finished watching ‘Stasi FC’ on Sky Documentaries.

Essential for footie fans with an interest in all things Cold War and liked the Deutschland 83/86/89 series.

Will be on demand also

Read some reviews on Boat Story how a number of viewers turned off after watching some of the first episode because of graphic violence and bloodshed.

This doesn’t sound like your normal BBC dramas.

Thankfully it's not a normal BBC drama It's excellent with a lot of very dark humour.

2nd epsiode of Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland....

Dont know an awful lot about 'The Troubles'. Starts off in 60's and is a mix of real footage and recent interviews of people from all sides, including British soldiers.

Apparently and seems very well balanced. It doesnt take sides, or paint certain sides as the good/bad guy.

Very harsh and sobering. To think that went on not long ago on our doorstep, involving us.

Available on iplayer. Same people made Once upon a time in iraq which is apparently just as 'good'.

I watched the series about the Post Office scandal yesterday and was quite moved for the poor people involved.
What an injustice.

Just watched two episodes of it and after all these years a TV programme has really brought these injustices back into the public eye and a police investigation.

Toby Jones who played Alan Bates is a very good actor.

Recently watched Belfast- the semi-autobiographical film by Kenneth Brannagh. As well as being really well acted, it made me appreciate the origins of the Troubles a lot more, and the real challenges they presented to ordinary folk just trying to keep out of the way.

The Stranger was a wild ride, right? Also unexpectedly hooked on The Crown lately. As for ITV, I haven't checked out Flesh and Blood yet. Any good? Drop some recs if you've got 'em.

Some great stuff around at the moment.
Slow Horses is superb - Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb is one of the great tv characters.
The Lazarus Effect is a splendid yarn, both series are belters.
GenV is insanely over the top comic book madness - I loved it
For All Mankind is continuing to build an amazing alternate future

You need a few subscriptions to keep up though.

And for the oldies, it was 60 years ago ............ A Hard Day's Night. There is not a lot of good concert footage of the early Beatles, so to see these "live" studio performances was great. So so young. John looking especially comfortable, long before he became such a misery. Paul and George exactly as you remember them, and Ringo being Ringo.
Well worth it, hadn't seen it in 20 years, I reckon.
