I'm pretty sure I remember us pressing the Newcastle keeper!......seriously no attempt by us to press in that first half......very apparent that we set up to let them have the ball and play on the counter. We rarely press the opposition goal keeper. The trigger for the press was when the keeper played the first pass to one of the defenders. We definitely were attempting to press and were getting played through with ease. We changed in the second half to a more compact shape.
Lol you have no sense of humour, jeezYou’d give a player a three for getting sent off after ten minutes? Lol what does he have to do for less, shag your Mrs and steal your debit card? Lol
He worked hard off of the ball in the second half and made a decent number of tackles, maybe he deserves a three for that alone. On the ball he was comically bad.
Did you see his free kick? Or his attempted shot that didn’t even go out of play? Or him tripping over the ball and then lunging into an opponent to try to win it back? I could go on
Possibly although he got though plenty of running...... Sat a deeper in the first half than he has so far this season under Al........more like the sort of performance we saw from him last season.Did the low press have to do with Solanke not being fully fit?
I saw a 2-0 away win.Did you see his free kick? Or his attempted shot that didn’t even go out of play? Or him tripping over the ball and then lunging into an opponent to try to win it back? I could go on
Not arguing about the result, the result was brilliant.I saw a 2-0 away win.
Partially, though I think Christie being off today (and his sub, Scott, having played 120 midweek) had a bigger impact on our inability to get the usual press working. Even with a 100% fit Solanke pressing I think we'd have struggled to implement it with today's midfield. I'd expect that with a week of rest we should be back to usual programming against Sheffield United.Did the low press have to do with Solanke not being fully fit?
We did the same against Brighton this season..... They keeper is looking for the straight pass into a midfielder who can then pop it off either side of him......we tried to block off the passing lanes so he had to go long......it wasn't working in the first half because Cook and Christie were too slow to react to the midfielder dropping from deep so that straight pass was always on.........we corrected that in the second half and forced them to go long more often.I thought they deliberately left Trafford alone so he couldn't play a short pass, he often stood, moved forward a bit, stood some more and then kicked long. It seemed like we wanted him to do that.
We agree. Not arguing about the result, the result was brilliant.
