Premier League say we are mathematically safe.

I don’t think all of them can
They can, I have been sad enough to do the checks.
Luton for example can reach 40 points by beating us, Brentford, Wolves, WHU, Fulham and Everton. Florist can get to 40 by beating Fulham, Wolves, Sheff, Chelsea, Burnley and Everton. Everton can reach 40 by beating Newcastle, Burnley, Chelsea, Sheff and Brentford. Of course they could get a few more points deducted.
Win tonight and at Luton and we can put the slide rule away.

Not really. If the chances of something that is mathematically possible happening are so small that zero is the nearest whole number then there is a zero percent chance to the number of decimal places I was using isn't there?
You never expressed this "number of decimal places" criteria that you were using in your post though did you?
We all know you will argue black is white and up is in fact down but now you've added zero isn't in fact zero to your repertoire. :grinning:

The Math will have it sorted for us if we wins tonight, Luton Lose at Arsenal....and we get a point a Luton...so as early as 5 pm on April 6th we would be 100% safe from relegation.
( If we lose tonight and assuming Luton lose at Arsenal...then a Win for us at Luton would still do it on that date)
Other results from that...and we have to wait !

So many of these get misunderstood over time. Money is not the root of all evil. Love of money is.

Exactky.

Key parts of that ommitted

'For the love of money is the root of all of evil'

Original use/reason for money was as a currency of value exchange. As it is still mainly is now.

You come fix xyz I'll give you xyz in exchange. That person can them use xyz to buy food, clothing, shelter etc.

Nothing wrong with loving money though imo. But if it changes (for the worse)/corrupts you and how you view people/tge world, or willing to screw others over for it....

You can be motivated and love money , as long as providing service, happiness, quality of life improvement to others. Subsequently enjoying rewards from it. Everyone's happy.

Not everyone 'motivated' by money is some corrupt ******************************** or Scrooge like character who'd sell his soul/family fir it.

Same way not every football fan is 2 pints away from smashing up the town of opposing clubs they visit.

Generally I agree but there was one occasion in the 1980s when my nan once managed to bake a cake with a metal weight from her old fashioned scales in it so in that case the proof that it was a bad cake was actually in the pudding.

Does this lead onto the whole scon/scone debate ;)

Agree. And they need to stop getting "couldn't care less" wrong too !

"I could care less" implies that your level of caring about it, has not yet reached rock bottom, i.e. you do actually care about it, even if just ever so slightly, because you say you are capable of caring LESS.

The expression is "I couldn't care less" which makes it clear that you really don't care, which is why the expression exists in the first place.

Any more for any more ?

100%! I read a few American centric forums, and sharply suck breath/wince each time I read that.

'Right, so as you could care less, you mean you do care and it does bother you then'.

Not overly particular with phrases/use of words (check out my slovenly posts ;)), but math and could care less does bug me.

Poor (unacceptable) butchery of our language from our American friends :)

Is there a difference between "mathematically safe" and "safe"?

For all the complaints about "US-isms" ................ :sneaky:

For me the question is will we finish 11, 12, 13 or 14? 10th is looking very unlikely. I think 12th. Apparently Bill's aim was top half, but I think 12th will be highly satisfactory. If we finish ahead of both Fulham and Wolves and get 11th, that will be very good.

It's the difference between logically safe and emotionally safe. I think... although having said that, Mathematically might be different from logically.

Damn, you corrected my personal favourite mis-type 'tge' ;)

I always feel emotionally safe (and available... but somewhat vulnerable) on this forum.

It's my special place. A little like a young child's comfort blanket.

Both my phone and eyesight are in urgent need of repair. In fact, phone needs replacing, but I find it emotionally difficult to replace phones. I get bizarrely attached to them the more disfunctional they become!! Going to opticians freaks me out.

Yes. A bit like relationships, in my case anyway.

Time for us to seek help :D

G/f just replaced her 7 year old iPhone actually.cracked screen, constantly on 1% charge for months/years etc. But she also has a thing with replacing stuff. Her house full of cr4p/junk, but she gets attached and can't get rid. I'm opposite and take hard-line approach. Hate having loads of stuff I'll likely never used stuffed away in cupboards or loft!
