Championship 23/24

The dirty old Southampton are going from strength to strength.

Shot ourselves in the foot by lending them Brookes and Rothwell.

Strengthened them massively.

Unlikely to sign either of them.

Stupid move by the hierarchy.

Southampton will be promoted.

It was a bonkers decision. Why we would help a larger club try and get back into the top flight and de facto be our main rivals for youth players when we have our new academy is strategically naive.

But now it hasn't.

Takes a while to bed players in.

Every time Sothampton play I check the score.

Brooks and Rothwell have strengthened them.

They have some great players in Adam's and Armstrong, but we've helped them.

Brooks stats are impressive since the loan deal.

Rothwell has won them games.

SDD are you looking for another argument, just counteracting an opinion you read on here, that you never muster yourself?

You're a strange unit.

Tbh they were fairly fortunate to beat us at the weekend .

Have hit a winning run but still need to beat Leicester and Leeds away I suspect .

Rothwell has also cost them games. They are decent players and gave probably strengthened them to a degree but they were unbeaten and heavy favourites for second when they joined then their results went to sh*t is all I'm pointing out.

Not sure what the last bit is all about.

They will get promotion automatically.

Do you think Commercially for our club, AFCB, that it was a wise idea to help them back into the PL?

Still 4 and 5 points behind Ipswich and Leicester - you reckon they win will all their games and others carry on dropping points ?

I do believe they will Mark.

They can grind **************** out.

Been there and done it.

Can definitely see it happening.

I don't think they will but if they do it will be no different to the league position they were in after their massive unbeaten run, which ended shortly after Brooks joined them.

I don't know what difference it will make commercially to AFCB probably not much. Tbh I think they did what was best for the players, which will probably benefit our squad rather than piss players off.

How naive.

Best for the players....not the club.

Yeah mate, for sure.

If you had just purchased a PL club as an owner, would you preserve your status, or do what was best for the players?

I bet you got 15 COVID vaccinations because it was best for the country, not for you?

Don't be so bloody ridiculous.

Wtf are you on about? I suspect the players asked to move. Rothwell was surplus to requirements. Brooks wanted more game time to get into Wales' euro squad and so they reluctantly let him leave. Once the decision had been made that we didn't need them they found the best option for them, which turned out to be Southampton.

We have preserved our PL status.

Neil is calling it a strategic decision because he’s lost Richard Hughes and now needs to up his anti-Blake campaign.

For years we lost fans to them on trains to watch top flight football. A lot of people still travel from our area to watch them as once the bug sets in as we all know it’s with you for life.

All the best young players in the area went to their academy hoping to play top flight football.

We are building an academy and a stadium. We have for the first time in our history got into a position of ascendancy over them and we should be not in any way helping that situation alter.

Naive strategic leadership.

It was a bad strategic decision Rob, one I highlighted before Neil.

We lost a very large amount of young players to Southamptons academy over the years.

We would likely gain those players if we stayed a league above them and had new state of the art facilities, whilst they stayed a league below.

Lending out fringe players in Southamptons pursuit of regaining PL status was a horrible commercial decision.

I'm surprised anyone is arguing that it isn't.

It's black and white.

Conversely I think you’re the naive one if you believe football clubs have the same enmity between each other as fans do.

I don’t think you’d see Southampton help Portsmouth back up…. Sunderland help Newcastle. They understand the importance of regional dominance. It’s not about enmity at the top level (you are right that’s a fans thing) it’s about market leadership and it’s impact on the future.
