The I-Spy book of football

Great thread!

A violence theme...

Ted laying out the opposition centre half in his first season. Evening game at DC, ball up the other end, bloke was out cold, Ted strolled away.

Warren Cummings smashing it into the dugout at Aldershot

Neil Young's assault on the Brentford (?) winger when they played on

Just finding out about places by going to away games. I mean when did anyone want to go to chesterfield? There's a crooked spire there. Who knew?

Actually saying that, I always liked trips to Derbyshire in general. Great way to see the country away days

A photograph, on a misty, foggy day and a young Fletch being taken off the pitch during a match having been subbed. It was before he got his teeth done. Behind him is the one Hartlepool supporter (who incidentally still lives in this area) who turned up to see how Fletch was getting on and standing in the away end, very spooky

Late 1950s - not sure of the exact date.
It's Boscombe vs Argyle at DC with Tommy Godwin, resplendent in an unusual yellow jersey, standing in goal at the south end waiting for the start of the game. With the ref just about to blow his whistle to get things under way, Tom starts waving and shouting to prevent the ref doing so. With that Tom legs it at top speed to the tunnel and then races back again. Someone behind the goal asks him is he's OK and Tom replied that he had forgotten to take his false teeth out!!

New VAR section

First var decision where a team scores a goal only for the game to be called back to give the opposition a goal via a penalty - Burnley away

First time a ref is called to the pitch side monitor but sticks to his original decision - Brentford home

Record wait for a var decision - Burnley home
Was the ref sticking to his decision before the Forest Away game (and Kelly's 'handball')? I was at Burnley and Forest.
