Newcastle United v AFC Bournemouth

Interesting that some geordies thought the ref was too lenient re our fouling and thought we should have some reds dished out for accumulation of yellows.

Couldn’t go today - anyone agree with that?
Wasn't there but there was a couple of players who got away with one once on a yellow.

Christie and Senesi spring to mind.

Thought the game was feisty, but without cheating or bad intent.

Exactly what a PL encounter should be.

Seem to think that refs don't like the fast press and harrying that is Bournemouths gameplan.

For the first time ever, the ref yesterday seemed to penalise our press and directness as a foul.

Hopefully it's a one off, but the signs are that our style of play doesn't sit well with the games managers.

Not a good result for me, we were playing a vastly under strength Newcastle without a single centre forward available. I’m still to be fully convinced by this style of football in all honesty, we look incredibly vulnerable at the back and if they had a centre forward available today I feel as though they win that comfortably. We looked great during the run but I’m not sure this football can be effective over an entire season, I think we’ll strike lucky this season though due to the very low standard of the promoted teams. I just don’t think you can be as open at the back as we are in this league.

I am still fuming at Adam Smith, how thick do you have to be in the VAR era to pull a shirt so blatantly in the penalty area?! He should be fined a weeks wages for that, it was so incredibly needless and so soon after taking the lead.
Ahhhh the old Waz is back

A good away point but robbed of all three by a ridiculous interpretation of the law. A cracking game of football with our boys showing just how the game should be played and yet the children on this board descend into a bitchfest.
Which is why a lot of us only dip in occasionally. I visit a lot of other teams' forums whenever we play them, and none seem to be dominated by utter cocks like this one is

It was a good game of football (I was there) and I'd agree we were robbed, not just robbed of three points but of a better game. After Solanke poached the first goal Newcastle really upped their game and we had to ride the wave of their pressure, and we did, we reacted to their reaction and it was a proper good contest. We'd started to gain momentum and it was swinging back in our favour through a lot of endeavour, skill and intelligence from our midfield who were outstanding. The penalty sapped a lot of that momentum and I'd say Semenyo's goal was against the run of play at that stage of the game. The ref continuously broke up the flow of the game giving too many fouls (because the Newcastle players asked for them and the officials seemed hell bent on not letting them lose) it was a good game, but it could have been great, even magnificent. We played some beautiful football and to be fair they were also good with Gordon looking dangerous throughout and some dangerous balls into the box. We deserved to win and I think the officiating was just too partial.

MoTD....showed to the Nation our boys playing some scintillating stuff in periods of that game..and we rode the pressure and coped with the noisy home crowd admirably...and the VAR Elite club bias ..enough for a point at least...4 points this season from that phenomenal entity.

...onwards to an even bigger task.....but another chance to get something from MC...who do drop the odd points.

Please for once ....No-one to adopt the 'free hit' nonsense....we really dont want the players to pick up that vibe..

That was a great result....any draw away against a higher placed team is a great result.

Why do fans bang on about mistakes...every single game in Football History has had mistakes..without them all the games would end 0-0 surely .
One mistake in today's game could have meant a 1- 0 defeat.... but both teams made roughly the same amount of mistakes according to the commentary I was tuned to...and I worked it out that 4-4 could easily have resulted.
You look at the table now and the fixtures remaining and you can see that only a total BH postcode bufoon or any of the surrounding village's currently reigning village idiot would have Boscombe relegated.
So....we can afford quite a few more mistakes yet... which is quite handy for Mr Iraola to carry on experimenting and comprehensively acclimatising to this league...ready for a top ten habituation next season...and thereafter.
Absolutely well said.

I can’t find any post match comment in print from Eddie so far, which seems odd. Would obviously be interested in his take on the game and incidents. Did he have anything to say to MOTD?

"Was in reply to this bit of Druss' post"

Makes no sense at all.

Cook was the last Bournemouth player to pass to Ritchie.

Just like he was the last player to pass to Fulhams goalscorer, who hadn't scored since the Jurrasic age.

Not sure what point you're trying to make here?
Have you actually watched the goal?

Ball is crossed. Kelly falls over allowing Ritchie to get a free header. Ball hits Cook, then hits Neto, and is then finished by Ritchie.

There are legitimate criticisms you could make of Cook. Blaming him for this goal isn’t one of them.

As for Fulham, he slipped. We can have different opinions as to culpability due to a slip, but he didn’t ‘pass’ it to the Fulham player. Sounds like you’d have Dubravka taken outside and shot for his slip for Dom’s goal.

I think Eddie's is looking tired and worn out again...and despite the fact he is gone from us and earning some big cash...he is somewhat lovingly ingrained in our memories...and I really don't want him becoming ill or declining in any other way...but he is so rapt and serious with the analytical stuff...I'd say on a higher plain than many managers...in part quite genial but as with many genial people in the Entertainment World...the distractions from normal domestic life can be disastrous...
I think it's worth a worry and maybe another break for Eddie is imminent.

I for one thoroughly enjoyed my trip to St James's Park. Very tasty burrito followed by several excellent pints in Head of Steam which in turn was followed by 100 minutes of very entertaining football.

I'm a massive fan of the way we are approaching games, for me we were the better team pretty much throughout despite the refs very obvious bias towards the big home team.

I'm not one to blame players when mistakes lead to a goal. Mistakes at both ends of the pitch are part of the game but shirt pulling in your own area is a bit dumb.

Next up for me is Burnley, shame about the crap 1pm ko time but looking forward to it regardless

Solanke at West Ham.
that was to check christie hadn't got the last touch, shouldn't have gone to var, the on-field officials should have seen it

i'm talking about all those contentious, interpretation one's we've had since the thing started, looking at endless slow-mo's then give the decision against us?

feels like 10/12-0 against or am I exaggerating?

It does seem like we get the shitty end of the stick regarding VAR but some of the decisions in other games yesterday regarding penalties not given were also as mind boggling. We just don't seem to get any favourable decisions. It's ruined the game with doubt for me. Not just the poor inconsistent level of it all but also stopping a game for 4 1/2 minutes to come to a decision. Overall a good point away from home which we should be happy with but decisions just leave that niggling frustration that we should have won. I'm afraid it's football of today, people and I can't see it getting any better

Re the last goal. Kelly’s slip was unfortunate. Maybe he was a victim of the pitch as was Dúbravka. Ritchie’s header down gave Cook very little time to react. Could have gone wide. Hit Neto. I wouldn’t blame any of the players. If I was being super critical I’d say that Trippier should have been shut down, he had an enormous amount of time to look up before crossing. I think Christie was closest.

It’s too simplistic to say Cook wasn’t mentioned second half. His back through to Kliuvert (?) who set Solanke up was a thing of beauty.

As for player ratings I’d say 7s and 8s all round.

Can’t wait for next week.
