AFC Bournemouth v Leicester City - Fifth Round FA Cup

Well, I basically agree with Bishop, not a lot for me to add and I'm not going to read all this thread to see what others think about last night (nothing personal but I don't have the time) : )

Disappointing result and attacking performance. It shows how important Dom is to us and Andoni. Leicester may be "lower league" but in the "pyramid" they're only about 7 places lower and it wasn't a bunch of kids out there : )

It highlights the work needed to turn our good football into goals. The last 6 league games had we taken our chances, I believe, we'd have won the 3 draws and drawn with City and Fulham. The fact we didn't and didn't score last night shows where our Achilles heel is. I'm still confident Andoni will sort it out : )

On a better note it was great to see Audenshaw "back home" and it was good of the club to organise the fireworks at such short notice : )
Also spoke to Fritter at halftime but he only wanted to know where Audders was : )
The DC Lounge was packed, again, great to see so many in there. Neil Dawson tapped on the window, mouthed something about us needing to recruit a bigger room : )

Ps onwards and definitely upwards to Burnley on Sunday. Only one Riverside Rocket, I think, but enough of us to load the three points and bring 'em back down South : )

Yawn. Straight in there with the "not allowed" comment.

I was pointing out that your supposedly 'grownup' tactical discussion mainly consists of having a dig at Iraola, in much the same way as Neil fixates on Blake and Hughes.

Or is that 'not allowed'?

so you didn't notice their tactical setup and our inability to overcome it?

if "having a dig" means asking difficult questions, then yes I'll go with your definition
apologies for boring you

yawn

I neither notice, or pretend to notice, any tactics, apart from maybe when we used to lump it forward under Tony Pulis.

Apology accepted.

So disappointed with the manner of defeat yesterday. We did enough to win that game. I would generally expect two teams that field second string to present a bit of a shitty spectacle but we've seen worse from previous seasons FA Cup efforts. AI has a system in place that will put us in a position to succeed. If the players don't execute on that system then nights like last night will happen.

On a more positive note, I had a good chat with a steward who I remember from the early mid-Seventies. He used to put the half-time scores up on the board and worked on the Brighton Beach End with another steward nicknamed 'Blue'.

A brief few minutes reminiscing about the lengthy travels to away games back then, and other stuff.

Sadly I think that our manager may have underestimated the opposition. Not having Solanke at least on the bench appears to have cost us dear! Is he injured or was just rested for this game?

Underwhelming for sure, but need to understand the context.

They had 4 days to prepare, while we had 2, which means had to change anyone in the team who had a backup.

Tough for those who play less to come on all at once and produce something of high quality against a team that is easily PL level.

It's not like introducing one or two changes; the whole attack was different.
Sure but Leicester made 9 changes from their last game. We made 6 so appreciate tiredness plays a part but not enough. We had 3 days between sat evening and Tues eve so don’t buy the only 2 days argument - fair enough for the West Ham to Forest early afternoon example

Are we saying AI can’t play midweek given the high intensity weekend pressing? If so, we have a big problem with this approach.

We were playing a championship reserve side and made that ex-scummer look like Bobby Moore despite our alleged quality pressing game

I think that was the issue with the game. Although we did fluff 2 or 3 big chances it's reductive to suggest 27 shots 4 on target has to solely be the quality of the finishing. So many shots were in a crowded box but if we didn't take them then the argument would be that we didn't shoot enough.

I thought the work rate generally was excellent we just didn't have that movement and pressure up top to disrupt Leicester's organisation.
One of our challenges seems to be playing intricate passes through a packed defence, like the proverbial threading the eye of a needle problem. Does our full out attack with lots of forward bodies simply invite a packed defence when it’s hard to find the target or do quick 1-2 passes so shots are more aerial from inferior positions and, thus, more risky. Leicester broke with fewer bodies and more scope to fashion better quality chances in more space.

Not sure if I am right or whether teams feel they pack the middle of defence against us but it seems to be harder to open up defences. I think we do this away better away than home tbh but still faced the same issue at Fulham

Completely ignoring other results. You really are strugling now aren't you?

For someone vwho says how much they enjoy the football under Andoni, you don't seem very positive about much of it.
I enjoy the football. He is polishing a turd though with the players he’s been signed. He didn’t have any central midfielders so he had to convert a jobbing winger. He has been given half of Europes wingers with the shooting power of an Aldi water pistol and has had to knacker out one centre forward while waiting for us to sign another injury prone one who….. is now injured.

I get a few diehards on here would defend our recruitment team if they signed Stevie Wonder but the majority of fans get it thankfully. Like others have pointed out… rank amateur. Feel sorry for Andoni I really do.

Polishing a turd. Im astounded you think so little of a bunch of players who have had a pretty good season so far, including those games I mentioned but you chose to ignore.

Astounded but not surprised.

Presumably other clubs below us also have worse recruitment records, seeing as thats the only factor you cling to?

Seems like the majority of fans disagree with you and are happy with the situation the club is in.
Staying in the EPL is the first priority for the club.
