Lloyd Kelly

He is a guy who has spent his career playing in La Liga and the PL other than a two year spell with us in the Championship. He plays for one of the better footballing nations in the world. You don’t think he has any value? You’ve just watched us pay 40 odd million for Traore and Dango.

I don't know what his value was but I know he went to Crystal Palace. He will have had value but it was probably not enough to justify a sale. If all of these clubs worldwide valued him as highly as you say why did he end up going to Crystal Palace?

We'll see how highly rated Traore is at the end of the season. If Napoli pay £20m for him that would make him considerably more valuable than Lerma based on his Palace deal.

What… the free transfer Palace deal because we messed up.….. kind of my point.

Also it wouldn’t really would it. If Traore goes back for the same money we signed him for he hasn’t gained anything for the club other than a waste of a years wages. At least Lerma contributed to staying up one year and coming back another…

Shock. Neil deflects from a debate on player by reverting to his agenda on two others.

Or you could have picked on Kluivert and Sinisterra who you wrote off too early.

Sorry Neil you're all over the place here, you admit you wouldn't have extended his contract, you say you would have cashed in yet there is no evidence anyone wanted him for the sort of money that would have been worth selling him for. Btw are you suggesting you'd have started our first season back in the PL without Lerma?

I didn't say he'd gain anything for the club I said if Napoli trump up £20m then hes worth considerably more than Lerma.

Great sense of timing too. He's banged on long enough about how sh*t all our signings are yet we brought on four of them on Saturday who completely changed the game and won us the point, unlucky not to be three points.

He would still have to agree. Why would he? He knew he’d essentially get much of his transfer value as a signing on fee, where would be his incentive to accept a move, even if someone had come in for him

Apart from the 3 years he played in Colombia

Feel some of those that slated Kelly for being ‘too defensive’ at LB under previous managers should reassess. Clearly he was acting under instructions.

He’s not become Cafu or Roberto Carlos overnight, but every time he’s played LB this season he’s shown a willingness to get forward.

On Saturday his first action was to go beyond the winger, receive a pass, and cross for the goal.

Am clinging on to the idea that a good end of the season playing under Iraola may persuade him to sign a new contract as the grass isn’t always greener. I expect he’ll go for the money though and who can blame him.

I know a good friend of Lerma. When I say that, not just whilst he was playing for us. He regularly visits him at his new place in Sussex.
The signing on fee he received at Palace astounded me.
I presume that’s in Kelly’s mind.
Presumably it’s a large wedge of the transfer fee that Palace didn’t have to pay. Was probably still a ‘cheap’ bit of business for them.

But, but, but, I thought he moved for a new challenge?

We will have
Smith
Aarons
Senesi
Zarbarnyi
Hill
Bevan
Dango

…for sure I would expect

I do see Kelly going to Newcastle United and maybe Kerkez going somewhere

Think it would be good to get in a left back?

Maybe Taylor from Burnley or Toffolo from Forest?
Ideally Teirney from Arsenal?

The fact he can comfortably play two positions feels like we're losing two players.

He's quality. Such a shame that he'll most likely walk, and will probably barely play for a couple of years.

Rollysroyce defender. Very composed, technical, clever imo.

Will slot in nicely as 2nd/3rd choice lb and 4th choice cb at a top club, with higher calibre players around him.

That’s absurd for a player of his quality. Can see why we opted to sign Adams for 20m if that’s the case.

Yes, because although high signing on fee. Has to be factored in how much to replace him... so its ok saying crazy SOF, but then means having to walk into market and spend likely way more to find adeqaute replacement.

Overall I agree, Adams, is a better player. According to FM24, very similar attribute wise, but Adams, has better technical attributes/intelleignece... even has better aggresssion!

Lerma is decent, but somewhat limited, as in, lacks in posession, when it comes to top tier DMC's.

We have the better player on our books now, I'd choose Adams every day.

Argument to be had around physical robustness... hopefully Adams will remain fit most of the time, from here onwards.

Those slightly better attributes, means difference between 20 mill odd tops (Lerma) versus 40-50mill odd for Adams imo, down the road... potentially.

Elite sides arent remotely interested in Lerma, they may show interest in Adams, should he have a decent season next year.

Look at Chelsea/Adams last summer... that isn't happening with Lerma, despite him being available for nothing back then. He ends up at non-entitiy like Palace.
