Is this as good as it gets?

Whilst perving down the beach today and basking in the afterglow of last night's victory, I started to assess this season's performance (fantastic!) which quickly moved to thoughts of next season. This potentially could be our best ever season; could beat our best league position, could get that final European place. Unlikely but not impossible. I'm going to enjoy it whilst it lasts.

But what about next season?

Dom likely to be sold, Zab if he has a good Euros 2024 will surely attract massive offers, Kelly off, Semenyo must now be getting attention and Andoni in his final year of contract. I know that this attention is the product of success and also the 'buy low sell high' is a sensible business strategy and of course most of this is conjecture but highly likely.

I dont want to be the harbinger of doom, God forbid I dont want to take R&R's mantle, but is this as good as it gets?

He can have big plans but the new FFP regulations they're bringing in are laser focused on hamstringing a club like us or Luton from becoming a fixture in the PL. That's going to be a huge challenge.

That doesn't mean it can't happen but you can see the authorities are fed up with small clubs getting hold of the tv money and using it to hang around rather than having one glorious season in the sun and then bogging off in favour of some also-ran with a larger stadium.

You're asking that on social media, by the end of the first page someone will be telling you it's actually the worst it's ever been : )

Some how Eddie Mitchell, Maxim and Bill have taken us on this magic carpet ride. Appointing the right people, buying and developing players good enough to get us this far. It's uncharted unexpected territory, we certainly can't judge on past experience as a club. I'm holding on enjoying where we are and where it looks like we're going. It's like a wild wild weekend, the hangover and come down will get us sometime. Until then, let's lose it and make the most of the high times. Make memories no matter how vague they are when we're sober : )

Just when I was really happy to have you back on here! :p

DW had talked about a brief call around Easter, so maybe it's time??

The chances of Andoni and Antoine leaving us in the Summer...to Liverpool or Manchester even...is something the club will need to get itself around.
And ...and Possibly Newcastle will 'interfere' with our progress, which would be sad bearing in mind Howe and Co kicked this all off !

Seriously....things are likely to change frequently from hereon in ....the way this league is.

Money is the Guvnor..... squire Batman !

I think at some stage there will be a massive class action against FFP as it is anti trust and anti competition.

Probably a year or two away but it will come.

Must be. The fatique and tiredness is already well overdue and when that finally kicks in we're really going to struggle.
But that will apply to a number of clubs, especially those with large injury numbers.

I am hoping that after what Bill Foley has witnessed over the season so far and while he has been at the two recent wins, will ‘sound out’ A I about extending his contract.

That then will hopefully focus some of our players minds on what a good manager they have and style of exciting football he has brought to our club.

So for me it probably isn’t as good as it gets.

I'm in the same camp as Table.

None of us know what the future may bring ( although almost certainly far worse times ! ), so I try not to worry about it.

I just know that the combination of this manager with these players is working supremely well and it's amazing to be here to experience it.

We have an astute manager, skilful players who play without fear and are always willing to give their all for him. We seem to have no unrest or troublemakers in the squad, everybody is pulling in the same direction.
You get the feeling that we can go into any game with a chance of winning a point or three and in doing so we will not be boring to watch.

It really doesn't get much better than that, so just enjoy it while it lasts would be my advice.

For me, this feels like the most positive time I've had as a Cherries supporter.
Everything just seems to be clicking right now.

I hope it gets even better!

To do this, we should:

Extend the manager's contract, at least until 2027. At least!!!

Only sell, if we have to. We have some very long contracts with very good players. We should be able to keep most of them for another couple of years and THEN sell them at a huge profit.

Keep buying in young players with potential. It won't always work but we seem to be doing well so far. I hope that, for this, Simon Francis is able to at least match Richard Hughes in his recruitment effort.

Build a new stadium, without breaking the bank.

Keep Bill alive, and interested, for as long as possible.

Simples!

:utc:Always!

With the American interest, perhaps we could get Quentin Tarantino to direct a new film 'Live Bill'.

It might be, but one thing at a time. Last time we had a few threads like this we fell out of form for a couple months! :) I never thought we'd repeat the high water mark of Eddie in ~ 2016-18 but here we are competing with it.

The PL and Sky will be somewhat irritated about Chelsea scrapping around mid-table with us. Or the likes of Spurs and Manchester Utd off the pace and inconsistent, getting beaten by all sorts. It's not good for the brand you see. That won't be the case many seasons, it will be corrected sooner or later. And I don't think they'll really want Everton relegated if they can help it, despite being forced to chastise them.

However in general I don't think the bottom half of the league should hold many dire concerns. There's always a couple of middling clubs, bigger than us but who are poorly run, such that it gives us a chance to complete. The identities change over time but they're always there. It's up to us to keep working on ourselves and doing our job.

Keeping AI for as long as possible (plus any succession planning) is going to be a big factor.

I think it could get end up getting better, but we'll have to be patient for now. We're certainly going to have to sell at least one of Dom and Zab this summer but the money should be enough to bring in sufficient replacements and balance the books.

This smacks of Eddie's first full Newcastle season - we're somewhat ahead of schedule, so I'd rather not start setting unrealistic expectations for us for the next few seasons to come. I'd like for us to consolidate at this level and acquire a solid reputation for bringing on and developing exciting new talent to sell for a large profit, whilst working to get the new stadium over the line.

In an ideal world, we are a solid, well run mid-table/lower reaches of the top 10 club, playing exciting football, who always have an outside chance of European qualification with a month of the season to go.

Bill is canny is he not? He's no doubt aware that the likes of us are not welcome at the top table, which is likely one of the reasons he's working so hard to sell us to an American audience. Makes us just that little bit harder to overlook.

I know since we reached the Premier League and the way we did it first time round, we have attracted some American followers, by those who now post on here.

Any idea how big our following is over there?
