Lloyd Kelly

Yes, because although high signing on fee. Has to be factored in how much to replace him... so its ok saying crazy SOF, but then means having to walk into market and spend likely way more to find adeqaute replacement.

Overall I agree, Adams, is a better player. According to FM24, very similar attribute wise, but Adams, has better technical attributes/intelleignece... even has better aggresssion!

Lerma is decent, but somewhat limited, as in, lacks in posession, when it comes to top tier DMC's.

We have the better player on our books now, I'd choose Adams every day.
Was talking more about the wages, wouldn’t have been against us offering Lerma a signing in fee of that level to stay on 60k per week. 100k per week for a player of his quality is crazy.

I don’t think he’s a great DM at the top level, he has great physical attributes but his mental attributes such as his concentration, positional awareness and positional discipline were always lacking. Fans love it when a player charges around like a man possessed to chase the ball but the reality is that that isn’t how top tier defensive midfielders operate. They intelligently and diligently cover spaces and know when to hold their position and when not to etc. it’s no coincidence that a Palace side who have historically been very defensively stubborn are now having their worst season defensively for years with Jeff as one of their midfield screens.

He’s one of these rare players that fans love but scouts and bigger clubs would not be interested in, hence why he ended up at another mid tier PL club despite the fact he was available on a free and in his prime. Any scout watching him will have noticed the many deficiencies in his game from a defensive view point. Lewis Cook is a better defensive midfielder but he will never receive the same adulation from fans because he doesn’t charge around like a mad man or bang in the odd screamer, the more tactically astute fans appreciate him though ;-)

Yes was thinking Cook, when reading reading opening part of your reply.

Many fans will prefer Lerma, but as you say, Cook doesnt need to run around like a maniac, as clearly posseses better anticipation/postional (football intelligence...) skills... plus more composed, better in posession, assured than all action Lerma.

Basically a higher level version of Bartley.... who fans also loved. Whereas Cook more in Surman mould, loosely.

Zubar another headless chicken, who achieved cult status in the few games he turned out for us in, for crazy/acrobatic last ditch challenges, offline clearances. Whereas a lot of the time we were sliced open due to his poor football intelligence/discpline in the first place!

Different position obviously but Lloyd Kelly is like the opposite of Jeff Lerma in that I think he is very highly rated by people in the game but less so by fans.

I completely agree about Jeff but I'm also happy to admit that I am one of those fans who loved watching him despite his limitations.

Yes was thinking of the whole 'entertainment' debate, and certain players are more fun/exciting to watch, as a pose to more stable/reliable players...

Bring a bit of drama/fun to the spectacle. Bit like choice (dubious...) in women ;)

I agree, people were surprised at the lack of high calibre clubs that wanted to take Lerma on. Similarly, they are going to be surprised by the number of high profile clubs that DO want to sign Lloyd Kelly. Because he’s not an all action battling centre back many struggle to see his obvious and rare qualities, wouldn’t be surprised to see him at a Champions league club next season his talent and profile are so unique.

I also enjoyed watching Jeff play at times, but give me a tactically astute DM like Adams or Cook any day of the week. I feel sorry for Lewis Cook, he’s been one of our best players this season and very few can see how valuable he has been for the team. I’ve never been a fan of his either previously but I’m happy to admit that he has proven me wrong.

I think this was always going to happen, and to be honest, looking at Newcastle and us, I don't blame Lloyd for considering this move...

Huge potential for the club, fan base that will be more supportive of him, former manager that loves him so will stand a very good chance of being a regular and will no doubt double his wages...

What's to consider...

We can build state of the art training facilitates and get a new ground of 18-22k but the long and the shorty of it is we will always struggle to compete with the a lot of clubs at this level, when it comes to finances and what we can offer players...

One for our resident @The Fish then. Direct competition for Dan Burn at CB / LB, without really fully specialist at either. Left of a back 3 probably his perfect position but that's a bit niche.

Probably a good deal for Newcastle, even if it's not going to set Geordie pulses racing. If they can get over the impression that a freebie from Bournemouth doesn't fit a certain expectation level they may have been going for in recent years. He should be a decent fit for them.

Awkward one for us because we may need to sign two players to replace him.

Well in all honesty I don't think the club should be held hostage by Kelly for ever more money when he's not even first choice at either LB or LCB. Admittedly he is more than adequate back up in both positions so will be missed.

Oh well another player is leaving, no bother we move on! The club is greater than any player/member of staff.

I like Kelly, he is a good player but if he doesnt want to be here then thats fine. Its his prerogative to look for his best option, I'll support him for the rest of the season and then forget about him come June.
