Callum Wilson back at AFCB?

Is this or a yes or a no type question?

For me, if we sell Solanke I'd have him back in an instant.

Wrong side of 32, but if you could get 2 seasons out of him with minimal injuries it's a no brainer.

Of course nobody can predict injuries, but he still has it.

Injury free, he's good for 15 a season for 2 seasons.

But can he remain injury free?

It never pays to go back, generally. It worked for Eddie, managers are the exception not the rule. :)

One of my favourite all time players but not only is he not as good as he was doing what he does, he doesnt fit the AI style of play. He stopped bullying defenders and running channels a few years ago now.
Fair point.

Can't see Unal running the channels or bullying defenders either though.

So if we sell Dom, what style of player, or what named player should we sign?

Should have signed Jackson.

I too wish we were in the alternative universe where we signed an injured striker who's finishing makes Afobe look like Lewandowski.

No no and no again.

Wrong side of 30. Barely ever plays. Huge wages. Left on slightly sour terms.

Ticks literally none of the boxes.
I certainly don't think it's in the clubs best interests, it has however been mooted in the media.

If he was able to play 25 games a season, I'd be all for it.

He does have a natural strikers instinct.

Callum is not a Dom replacement... But I am not sure we could afford a Dom replacement... If Dom goes it will be because we've let a player go to extend his career and we've got some dosh for doing it... As was said earlier, I don't think there is a deal to be done that can offer us an opportunity to replace Dom. What he offers us is way too valuable.

If the price was right then I would take a punt on Callum, but the price would need to be quite low... Callum has had his fair share of injuries but to say he's barely played is a bit harsh. He's played 25 times this season in all coms and scored 10... He's obviously got something about him still.

Would all be about the price.

Gah, for nostalgia reasons it would be great. But he’s not someone we could have these days as the number 9 to rely on.

It works well at Newcastle with Isak able to step in and sometimes Howe even goes with both. But the fee(?) and wages would mean that realistically we wouldn’t get the value we’d need from him.

If we had a 19 year old red hot striker prospect I can see some sense in him also being able to pass on his experience. Instead we have a soon to be 27 year old in Unal who should also be able to do that if we bring in a youngster. Doesn't feel like the right move now.

Aghhhhh ....here we go again the May madness kicking in...doh !

Callum Wilson.
One of our Legends.
Leave it at that.
Stop the emotion right there !
Going back rarely works to the Good.

There are hundreds of other fresh, fit, ambitious, up and coming strikers out there...just like he once was.

That word...Injury.
Ye Gods and Jesus Christ..
How many more f√cking times will it be suggested that it's OK for this club to sign an injury prone player or batches of injured players every window. The acceptance of this bonkers notion is truly f√cking bizarre!
Hopefully a new Recruitment Team will ignore some of the ill - thought, badly researched, bonedome, speculative and typically tinpot punts on this Forum...and themselves get their sh*t together and improve on previous transfer strategy, eliminating amateurish, high risk manoeuvring in the market. :cuppa:
