Adam Smith

Didn't realise Smithy fell out with fans last season. I mean he's given so much and continues to always give so much. Why on earth would fans be anything but proud of him. Hope we offer him another year and then a coaching role before Eddie does:)
He didn't say home fans. more than likely our opponent's fans.

I'm fairly sure our players were not happy at all with our supporters for giving Kelly grief. Phil Bill came out and said so and I'm sure Smithy wasn't happy with it either.

Let's face it despite what players usually say about how great the fans are behind the scenes it's almost certainly a different story.

Surprised he’s still putting in the level of performance that he is, he’s proven me wrong as I thought his time was up. He does still struggle at times against quicker opponents but he’s certainly held his own this season. I think it should be his last season as a regular though, we let the likes of Francis and Surman go on for too long at this level.

Always think it’s a bit of a myth when people say older full backs struggle against quicker opponents. Franno used to get this. If a ball is played through right for a winger to run on to any full back will look slow.

When Sinisterra plays we expect him to beat his full back from time to time. We’d be right on his back if he never did at all. So de facto we have to expect our own full backs to be beaten for pace. I’ve seen Kerkez beaten numerous times but because he is 19 we seem to accept it must be his opponents strength and not his weakness. People should afford Smith the same luxury.

I’m sure. I would imagine Smith though was referring to criticism of him on Twitter/X where most players hang out. For stage it was nasty and uncalled for around his age and worthiness to still play top flight.

Probably right, there seems to be a lot of people on twitter who flip between gloating relentlessly when we win to abusing our players when we lose. No in between. Despite the strange rows from other threads tonight this place has thankfully always been a little more considered than that.

Probably the same people that are now complaining he's holding back from signing a new contract...

Smith has been one hell of a signing for us... His levels are largely consistent and has rarely experienced a dip in form throughout his time at DC.

Whilst it probably does him no favours with the some of the twitter fans, I actually find his honesty quite refreshing... We often forget that playing football is a job to these guys... and more-so when you get to Smith's time in his career when a lot the excitement and hype of being a pro footballer has firmly gone...

Smith is the last man standing (I think) from a time when we were in the lower leagues... he's seen it all with us and been a great servant to the club. He should be awarded a contact extension and a testimonial, and some fans should give themselves a head wobble when thinking of giving this guy sh*t...

The problem with Twitters anonymity is that you end up with probably fans of other clubs as well pretending to be a fan of your club and slagging the player off.

You see all the time people saying things like ‘I can’t believe one of our own fans would racially abuse Ollie Watkins for missing a pen’ for example and I just think that’s a Birmingham fan calling himself Villatillidie…

I think I’ve been predicting his “right time to bow out” for at least two seasons now and he keeps on surprising me.

He must really be looking after himself because he’s hanging on in there, even now, in the toughest, most physically demanding of leagues.

With the injuries we’ve had in his position, he has been such an asset for us this season.

We are lucky to have him and should give him massive credit for his professionalism through thick and thin.

It will be a sad day when his time with AFCB finally comes to an end.
Same here and not just the demands of the league but the huge jump in competition from Aarons and Kerkez.

It will be doubly sad when he goes as he is the last of Eddie's promotion winning heroes.

The only consolation is that we're looking like we're transitioning from one golden age to another.

Also been absolutely brilliant this year which is just as well as Aaron’s has turned out to be an injury nightmare.
Quite so- you would have thought that whoever recruited Max would have realised that a player who made 213 appearances in his first five seasons as a first team player (ave 42+ per season) would be injury prone as soon as he signed for us.
