AFC Bournemouth v Wolves

Just in got in from the game, and although we could and should of created more in the final third I must say I enjoyed the battle, the hounding and the all round fight from the lads today.

The manager has just left and we are coming off the back of a 9 nil drubbing, not too mention the City and Arsenal chapters, these players have really been through it the last 4 weeks or so. But we got stuck in,we got in the faces of Wolves and really worked dam hard for the point. A few special mentions to Tav, Cook, Christie and I must give Mepham a mention as he made some vital headers up against Jimenez. Yes some will argue it’s a point at home, and we played like the away team but when you consider everything that’s happened since Villa… I’ll take a point, a clean sheet and some fight from the lads. Onto Forest next, I shall be there and I think this will give us the platform now to really give that lot a game and come away with all 3!

Does Smith have a daft switch on him, he has been doing daft things for years. Pushing someone with two arms just outside the box against a team with some brilliant freekick specialists is mental, then he holds a player down with two arms in the box. The guy is a nut case.

75th minute - Wolves piling on the pressure and we couldn't keep them out. Who stops the game for 4 minutes and lets us reorganise?

Mr Adam Smith.

And thus we saved a point.

Truly terrible for a whole host of reasons. Couldn’t press high up the pitch because of the wing backs, lost Adam Smith as an out let down the right and Tavernier all of a sudden is more of a left back of a five than an attacking outlet. We ended up deeper and invited us on to them.

That said, I quite like having that flexibility and change of system, sometimes it does come off.

Found the amount of tactical notes coming on quite funny towards the end. Lewis Cook had enough paper stuffed down his sock to rival any office recycling bin.
It’s interesting. And it depends which way you look at it. While five at the back pains me we were getting killed down the flanks and matching their formation allowed us to put a man on their man and when Anthony came on with fresh legs double up on Traore. It killed us as an attacking threat but it helped us defensively I thought, even though we had to do more defending.

I think we wanted to protect the point which ultimately we did do I kind of got it, much though it goes against the grain of playing at home. Today wasn’t any old home game though.

After the last three games including a soul-destroying result it was imperative that the slide was halted(although v.a bottom table team).
We did so against a team that could sense our frailties and obviously were well up to take advantage of our poor morale.

Step one : tick.

Even after our disastrous start I can’t get excited by a home draw against a poor side. Stopped the rot I suppose but that’s the best I can say.

It was more than that for those that were there, probably difficult to put it into perspective if not. There was a definite feeling of the players and fans pulling together and trying to get through this whole situation. A point was an added bonus against a side stuffed with talent but all over the shop on the pitch.

I felt we were a little too defensive, almost as if we were walking on eggshells before eventually growing into it . We should have chucked Moore on when we took hold of the game but the moment had gone when he eventually appeared.

A really odd night leaving me with mixed emotions. There seemed little difference between both teams, no gulf in class which is a good thing but perhaps we should have taken the shackles off and gone for it with hindsight . That said when the whistle went there was an overriding sense of belief that we can get through this, it certainly felt as if we'd won the game and the players got a brilliant ovation.

I feel happy, the squad responded, the fight, belief and talent is there although goals might be hard to come by I guess. On to Forest, should be a decent game.

This team has had its confidence shot to pieces with recent results along the previous manager constantly telling anyone prepared to listen his players are shite. With that in mind, the result tonight was a timely bonus and will certainly help morale within the camp. The performance wasn't great, as I think its going to take a while to undo the negative tactics Parker has drilled into this team. However, the effort they put in to get a result deserves a lot of credit.

Zemura scares me as a left back, he would be much better if pushed forward. Smith, for all his experience, still seems intent to do something daft in most games, and our retention of the football is dreadful, meaning we continually give the ball away and invite pressure from our opponents. Having said all that, I think if this young team is encouraged to play in a way that suits them, we can make a decent fight of staying in this league. At this early stage of the season, I just don't buy the idea we are already as good as relegated and should just give up. Put Forest in their place (again) at the weekend and things will already be looking better

Disagree that it helped us defensively, felt we were far more vulnerable with a back three and were very lucky not to concede during this spell.

If anybody is genuinely criticising that performance from a managerless team that have come off the back of 3 proper pumpings I think you should maybe consider giving a close family member authority to deal with your affairs as you’re evidently mental.
Welcome to the board. With that attitude I’m sure you’ll make a lot of friends on here.

I’m sure they’ll get used to you stan. You take negativity to a whole new level.
fwiw, I really enjoyed the battle tonight, everyone got stuck in. And Mephams playground foul in the middle of the pitch was just brilliant.

Wolves are bottom of the table...because they are not a good football team....that's the bottom line.

And we scrapes a point off them...tsk tsk !

We should 'ave blitzed the buggers..but we didn't so it begs the quesjin... where am the goals coming from this winter ? Weve hit 2 so far from 5 games...and let in 16....
...so that tags up with SP's theory and honesty that we haven't got the quality to survive.

They sacked him for speaking his mind !

If the next manager starts speaking his, Christ Almighty Batman . ...what then ?

I agree. Love the work rate from the likes of Christie and Tavernier but the quality to create just isn’t there (Christie more so than Tav.) You can’t fault the effort but we just don’t have either a player who can pick a creative pass in the final third or a skilful pacy attacker who can beat a man and open the game up. Without recruiting something that even vaguely fits either of those profiles tomorrow I just don’t see where the goals are going to come from. Feel for Solanke, he works so hard but we just didn’t provide him with any service.

I read a lot of depressive messages on here of late brought about because of lack of points on the board but did anyone really expect to get points from Arsenal, City and L'pool? I was wishing for points but is was only wishful thinking. can't name anyone I would like to have as manager but someone with a bit of character and International experience , but not like SP who I thought was always struggling for the best words to describe the mess he had got us in.
I hope for a livelier side from us for our next game and not worry about the dozens of players bought for £millions. They certainly have loads of men to choose from but can only play 11 at a time...same as us. I've been supporting since the early 50's and am pretty laid back about it all nowadays.
When we were in the Championship we were playing beautiful energetic football, winning loadsa matches...something psychological missing now I guess.

Oh be quiet. You and CherryBare just can’t resist having a nibble can you. You’re as bad as each other. My opinion is different to yours. Get over it.

What do you mean a nibble? You said we have no PL quality players to compete. We’ve shown we can compete with teams in and around us (so far), kept 2 clean sheets, 4 points for a very tough month in August. Whether it’s an opinion or not, you can’t argue with the facts so far

After having a quick flick through your post history I’m more than happy that my attitude is more constructive than the bitter over 60 divorcee attitude you give off. Thanks for the advice though treacle.
Wow, you seem a lovely fellow. There are a couple of people I should introduce you to.

I think when you play without the ball you will always look less fit because by the 70th min you will have ran far more than the opposition. It’s why I don’t like that way of playing. We looked less fit under Eddie in his last two seasons than any of his previous but we wouldn’t have been. We just switched from c60% plus possession to c35% and legs rather than the ball doing the work.

Like others have said that was a good shift and felt more like a Bournemouth team. You could see they wanted to avenge the weekend and the main thing today was to not lose and arguably to keep a clean sheet.

Neto had excellent distribution and held the ball well. I thought Mepham and Kelly were excellent apart from the latters once a game suicide moment. Cook was my MOM for really leading and moving the ball brilliantly. Solanke looked like he was maybe 90% fit but did some excellent spins and turns. Tavernier had a great first half and looks and excellent acqusition.

Negatives. We have to play differently. You can’t play counter attacking football with no pace up front. It’s weird! We break like a tortoise race. Or we need to sign a quick forward, or keep Dembele. Players wise, Christie works hard but so would we if we could play, his quality in key moments costs us time after time. Anthony has to start we have no goals in the team other than the two centre forwards, one of whom didn’t start. We can’t let teams have 90 mins in our half and expect to get anything, although the off form Wolves forwards proved me wrong I guess.

So, a key day on the signings front tomorrow and looking forward to Forest and hoping the new management team are working on ways to get us up the pitch.
Lewis Cook was out there acting like the captain.
At least three times I saw him tearing into teammates for their complacency or geeing them up in important moments.
He had a great game and really asserted himself.

We haven’t scored a single goal from open play this season. We need to find some creativity in the last day of the window if we are to compete over the course of the season. We have plenty of grafters but we lack creativity and pace. We have had 8 shots on target this season.
