Andoni Iraola

It’s got nothing to do with Brexit from what I read, it seems there’s a hold-up due to waiting for the Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) from the FA.

Yes, but GBE restrictions came in after FoM ended:

RECRUITING ASSISTANT MANAGERS AND NON-PLAYING SUPPORT STAFF

In most managerial appointments, the newly hired manager will require at least some support staff to accompany them. A lot of managers have a regular assistant manager. Many will also have a full team of analysts, coaches, fitness staff, medical staff, psychologists, and scouts.

The FA have produced documentation for support staff as well, although it appears to be quite hit and miss as to which staff are covered. Most of the documentation is simply replicated from the manager’s document.

This raises questions in itself. Holding equivalent positions in foreign leagues to the role that you are being appointed to for a number of years isn’t always applicable and it isn’t hard to see this causing a lot of finicky issues in the process.

There are one or two other pieces of particular interest:

The assistant managers’ document states in its exceptions panel criteria that those instances where the proposed assistant has “previously worked with the manager of the applicant club during the reference period (5 years)” will be taken into account. This suggests that if a manager wanted a specific assistant who had previously worked on their staff, it is more than likely that they would pass the exceptions panel. However, it would still cost £6,000 to go through the panel.

It’s so obvious that Sutton has not watched any of our matches, and is only looking at the results.
Although bizarrely, if he looks at those results and compares them to the results of the exact same fixtures last season, he would have to come to the conclusion that actually we HAVE improved.

But that's clearly too much to expect of him.

Like you say, he is probably vaguely aware that we haven't won a league game yet and therefore concludes that Iraola can't be much of an upgrade on the amazing GON.

Genius ! Some top quality punditry there Chris !

I really don’t get why some of the pundits insist on trying to give out the impression that they are an expert on all clubs. Quite understandably they’re not, you can’t be. You can only really know if you’re watching most of our games, preferably from at the stadium as that’s the only way of really noticing how the team play.

But instead we have pundits who watch 3 minutes of highlights, selected by someone else, then pass judgment.

It’s odd the media companies even think we need these kind of sound bite takes.

Also Sutton - based on his predictions from last year I think we are doing better than he expects under a new manager

What’s rather impressive there, is the fact that those predictions were done weekly, you’d have thought at some point he’d twig that some sides weren’t as good as he thought or vice versa, but despite all the evidence to the contrary he kept plugging away aimlessly…
