Andoni Iraola

Bilbao is an amazing city. Not often talked about with Brits because we have the other big Spanish cities that are trendier but I loved it. Great feel, great architecture and a seaside city… Rioja region just behind it as well is beautiful. Stayed in both and can totally recommend it to anyone thinking about it.
My mate is from Madrid - and the north and Galicia? is very popular with them.

Especially as the climate seems to be getting hotter and hotter one can only see that places like Bilbao and San Sebastian becoming even more popular.

Places getting hotter and hotter are most likely the places people won't move to when climate change gains traction.

Appealing now, but in 30 years time, unlikely to be tourist destinations when the water runs out.

Australia being the prime example of a country that will run out of water in the near future.

Future world wars will not be fought over oil, more likely H2O.

Ever heard of a borehole ? Used a lot in Africa.

Good and long article in the Athletic today re how Iraola‘s tactics were exploited earlier on by teams like Arsenal, up until today including the game away at Old Trafford on how his tactics are now working and winning points.

I think this, from the article BTL refers to, sums up why we have changed manager and the approach is more exciting:

In the previous one under Scott Parker (briefly) and Gary O’Neil, for example, only Nottingham Forest held a deeper defensive line than them, with Bournemouth completing defensive actions at an average of 22.9 metres from their own goal, while their 144 possession regains in the attacking third was also the second-lowest tally.

But this season, only five of the other 19 teams in the division — Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City — hold a higher line, while no club has scored more than Bournemouth’s seven goals after winning the ball back in their attacking third.

Spent a week in San Sebastian 20 years back.

Weird place. Loads of Teenagers all seemed to have these weird mullety hairstyles, with fringes.

Half the bars had pictures of people all over the place and other stuff ... ETA members, Basque freedom fighters iirc? Marches taking place through square 1st thing, flags, dreadful 'music' leading them on.

Our dams are currently 102% full - should be enough for the rest of this year. Last year (2023) between February and September here in Brisbane we only had 7 days when it rained.

P.S it's bloody hot right now!!

That’s the article.

We love the intensity. But 2 games running - West Ham and Florists we take a lead, dominate but then don't score the killer goal.
