Card up the sleeve?

One player who I look at who could give us that bit extra is Lewis Cook. Seems a little out of sorts with Eddie for whatever reason and his performances have looked a little up and down but when he’s on it he definately has the ability to swing a game against the lower table clubs.
Not in goal scoring terms (something I think we massively lack from our midfield) but in turning play, quick transition, catching the opposition flat and all the benefits that come from that.

In his recent sub appearances I think it’s clear the desire is there, would just love to see some of that ‘majesty’ that he can bring.

Who’s anyone’s top pick for a change in team fortune due to an individual performance?

I don’t think Lewis has necessarily made himself one who must be on the team sheet as could be said of a lot of the team tag.
If it’s not going well for him then there’s not much else to his game and can be prone to some errors in costly situations but having said all that the potential of what’s there can be game changing for the team as a whole.

Let’s be honest, he’s done the square root of feck all since he’s been with us. I’d pin my hopes more on the return of Brookes. He’s one we will definitely lose if we go down.

I agree 100% regarding Brooks. To me there’s no hiding from the fact that are most cutting spell of football in the last 5 years was when brooks arrived with a bang and before his first injury.

Unfortunately, in my eyes, he can not be the messiah this season as I would be surprised if he got more than 3 games.

We will only lose Brooke's if he shows the form he had before his injury, teams will wait and see, so imo we may have him for next season to build a championship team around, if the worst comes to the worst, :please:

I'm not sure we've ever really known how to use Cook. Deep lying, box to box, number 10 etc. He can do a bit of all of it, but hasn't yet excelled in any role, and Eddie encourages the jack of all trades master of none with his midfield 2s.

If he goes to a club where they play 3 in midfield with defined, specialised roles, he'll improve. I'd like to see us use that setup more often.

I don't suppose you'd check that sleeve for any other cards?....

Eddie doesn’t trust Lewis Cook. It’s one bad game and he’s out the team. I’m not saying his performances necessarily merit an extended run in the side, but he has persisted with other players much longer trying to play them back into form

“Eddie doesn’t trust Lewis Cook” ... maybe, but I wonder how much the players now trust Eddie? He’s spent months getting them to play an unworkable system in which they’re overwhelmed each and every week. Perhaps the crisis of morale is to do with these impossible tactics.

Now we face the crunch: the club needs one, perhaps two experienced players able to work the ball in midfield, play “in the pocket”, and maintain links with the forwards. If we bring them in there’s just a chance of getting out of this mess. If we don’t, this is likely to end very badly.

Apart from Brooks we have not really improved on our goalscoring midfield from the championship. Pugh , Ritchie even Harry used to chip in with a few. Now we have Fraser out of sorts for whatever reason and we are reliant solely on Callum. Our top scorer is a loanee who plays bit parts.

...Lewis Cook was at one point good enough for England, and we don't persist with him? I can see him returning to a newly promoted Leeds and doing really well...it is not like we don't have some 'previous' with Mings and Mousset both flourishing at other clubs under different managers...

Seems Eddie prefers Billing because he is tall and can stand at the front post for corners and has a long throw, otherwise I can't see what else he brings to the team. Stubborn Eddie is trying to prove a point.

some good points here--eddie has totally lost the plot---how many other clubs would he still be in a job with his record over the last 12 games---look at sheff utd--not spent a lot of money but are streets ahead of us--we arent even remotely exciting to watch--look what stuart pearson has done for watford--time for a change
