I found it interesting that we were prepared to commit to what would have been a large salary if we'd stayed up. Also a move for such an established player would have undermined Rico's future further.

Rico was always a last resort player for Eddie... many examples of trying to do anything not to play him.... Ake... Smith... whole side disruptions to keep him on the bench!!
 
Yep ... those bizarre games / game where Adam Smith was shoe-horned into left back instead of him and although a good player it didn;t work on his weaker side.
