Disconnected

First Team
Anyone else feel so 'disconnected' from the club at the moment? I personally have never felt so distant from the club, and I think she main reason is the games being behind closed doors - watching on TV isn't the same - especially when the performances are so hard to watch.
The farce off the pitch and the shite football on it are contributing to it too I guess but it's nothing new and least when it used be like this year's back you could still go to the ground and watch and cheer and vent on the stands which made you feel like you were having some effect on outcomes and part of the club.

I guess this is basically a rambly lockdown Bordem fuelled post about how much I miss going and God I hope we are allowed back soon.

Think it genuinely makes a huge difference. Similarly players who are struggling would get the uplift from a crowd behind them.

it’s weird though as we are 6th in the championship and in the fa cup quarter finals for the first time since I was born in the 60s. This should be a cause for celebration and excitement especially as the cup tie is against Saints snd we have two cracking six pointers coming up including playing our new foes from Hertfordshire.

similarly we should be positive about likes of danjuma, Wilshere, brooks and Stan playing for us. The team has huge talent but fitting them into a starting xi is really hard hence tinkering with formations. The bottom line is players need to take a hard look at themselves and give it everything they got. No doubt some think they will be in the prem next season but they want decent clubs. The examples of Wilson fraser and Rambo in a relegation scrap should be a warning as should seeing josh king hawk himself around on final transfer day. Ake shows that you need to keep giving it 100% if you want a decent move.

so I am disconnected and confused at the moment!

This season isn’t “real football”. Players wouldn’t get away with their lethargy in front of a full DC. We can’t lift them, yell at them, encourage or celebrate with them. The whole thing is stale. Clubs have been setting up at home not to lose, there is no way that would have been acceptable with crowds in.

Players can’t socialise or bond, often having to change separately, I’m not making excuses but so much of what has brought this team together just isn’t there.

I think we will see a lot more half decent players running down contracts and being released as clubs can’t afford them. How you identify and sign them could be crucial. I think the pandemic has changed football finances for a long time, as will the new rules on foreign players following Brexit.

Not being there is a massive part of it. You Also do have teams you identify with more than others though and we have been very spoilt lately. I’m sure we can all remember spells when you kind of went out of habit and don’t 100% bond with what’s on the pitch... we’ve just not had one since Groves and before that Quinn.

I feel dis connected from football at the moment....but will NEVER feel dis connected from AFCB!...as fans we don’t know what goes on behind the scenes, finances, boardroom power struggles, and general mood inside the boardroom.
To be honest we just have to concentrate on what we can see on the pitch, and I don’t feel separated from the club when I am watching or listening to them playing in matches....

Yes 100% agreed, everyone seems to know what goes on behind the scenes, but the reality is none of us have a clue, who makes the decisions, who does what.
For me that's emphasised when you listen to the interviews of the likes of John Bailey and Shaun teale, none of us had a clue those things went on at the time, just as we don't now.
Maybe one day it will come out

Welcome back Neil.

You've not missed much.

Everything is out of the window in lockdown. The players having to give 100% twice a week at the moment is taking its strain. The uncertainty about the manager's position with its mixed messaging has taken its toll, and maybe other clubs can handle the lockdown better than us.

Still we are 2 wins away from the FA Cup final. So this could turn out to be a very special season. It is certainly something to hold on to.

Just think how the current situation is affecting most of us, Covid and Brexit mainly. Surely the players are not immune to this, although some clubs seem to cope well. Just look at Brizzle and recently Brentford to see how teams can quickly go off the boil. We need a good sports psychologist to support the team through these difficult times, I hope we've got one on hand.

Bumped this post.

I think many of us related to the feelings of the OP but today was a glimpse back to how passionate we can feel about our team even from afar. Full of passion and fight. Still buzzing even now.

Yes agreed. Winning a game like today is a massive weekend long high.
Also feels more engaging when the team are (literally) fighting on the pitch

I would say I feel more connected, contrary to others.

Family situations don't make getting to games easy. Not being a ST or amassing points means I haven't had this much access to team I have grown up supporting.

One of the legacies of the small stadium and PL years is that didn't serve to expand the fan base due to the points system. I remember seeing a PL a few years back because someone I know, knew someone in a points syndicate. All they do is buy tickets for every game and then sell on the bronze level matches.

Now I can go, I am resigned to having full cup points ironically in year when we are in the Qtrs but locked out.

I don't mind priority for people who have been genuinely attending, but it's shame more people don't feel disconnected. Had the club had found a way to put aside a small number of tickets to lower points or new supporters (lottery method) they would know how big of following could have become.
