Has Eddie taken us as far as he can?

Is this this the time to say thanks and good luck?

Plenty of rumours around including him fancying the West Ham job and I get the feeling that it wouldn't devestate our fan base as it once would have........so is it time for him to move on once again to pastures new?
And please no Ifs or I love Eddie buts....

Two very different questions.

Is this as far as Eddie can take us? Under the current scenario it probably is...could anyone else take as any further. Probably not.

Could Eddie take us further with time, more investment, training ground, stadium? Probably.
Bloody hell what sort of poll would I need for that?...
Took me long enough to figure this one out....let's just keep it simple.

No it's not. We have had so many dips in the road throughout our Premier League journey, and this is another one of them. One of Eddie's faults is blind loyalty, and this season needs to be the last where we see the old guard in a red and black shirt - I'm talking Francis, Surman, maybe Daniels etc.

Even this season, we've seen Franno introduced - shoehorned into a side for no real reason, when there are better players that could deputise - not more experienced, just "better".

He will be able to turn the situation around once again, as he always does, but it is this loyalty, twinned with his over-thinking, that leads us down horrible cul-de-sac's, like that first 45 on Saturday. Five at the back does not work and it never has - his stubbornness to persist with what he thinks is best sometimes kills us.

I don't know what the dynamic with JT is like, but even Eddie needs some accountability, and I hope JT provides that - because some of the repetitive decisions we see on the pitch season on season are very predictable, and often never work. I trust he will turn it around.

In terms of his exit... I'd be gutted. This is a blip, and no-one is better placed to improve us, but he does need to give himself a holiday at some point, because his containment inside the Bournemouth footballing bubble sometimes affects his ability to see the bigger picture.

Nope. We are kind of fortunate to be as high as 11th, and yet our squad is definitely Top 10 quality on paper (IMHO). Both EH and the squad have room for improvement.

At the macro level, I think it would be literally impossible for anyone to take the club much further than Eddie has done. At this point it's about consolidating and solidifying the progress made into something that can last longer and doesn't totally depend on Howe - hence training and academy complex, and who knows maybe stadium progress one day. But it does rely on continued stability where we are, whilst those more concrete foundations for the club are put in place.

In the micro level of current form, I think there are small gains that could be made with this squad, there's definitely some under-performance, there some consistency to iron out, some further potential to be unlocked.

The higher you go, the harder and more expensive it becomes to realise any gains though. Like Athletics or F1, progress at the lower end can be swift, but gains at the top end are small and very hard to come by.

Remember Charlton fan's saying " has Alan Curbishley taken then as far as he can" their next manager was Ian Dowie.....and the rest is history.

Be careful what you wish for.......if we when down and Howe was still the manager, I would take that, as he would have the best chance of getting back / stabilising the club in Championship.

If HE wants to go, fair enough.....but just cause we have had a few roppy games don't start calling for his head....FFS

Are you sure?lol

In this culture of managers getting the ultimate punishment for failure....there is a growing realisation that 'Player Power' is getting managers the sack.... through dressing room cliques..aided by press and online interference.
Players not pulling their weight or having full commitment to a Club...due to factors of Transfer issues and Agents..is rife!

Dean Court is not immune...and its probable that its effective with Fraser and Wilson...and even possible with Lewis Cook and Brooks at some point.
Eddie Howe will obviously be aware...but just as obviously wont transmit that outside...and will wish it goes away somehow....and he will do his best to reverse it.

Its happening at Manu and Arsenal so...it is here to stay for the forseeable future...as are Agents....the single worst element of the sport!!

I agree that a manager like Eddie Howe comes along once in every lifetime. I genuinely think that the stars were totally alined when Ted accepted the job and we should all pinch ourselves before every meal every day just to make sure we are not dreaming.
Now! My take is that as fans, we all think and maybe expect him to take us to the next level. But what is that? Top six? Barcelona style entertainment every week? Survival and the odd blistering performance is more like the reality I feel.
Ill get slagged (like most on this forum) but I do feel Eddie has certain limitations and areas that he needs to improve on. Who doesn’t?
I think we all agree that the old guard need moving on along with a few of the less decent signings. Eddie needs someone along side him (JT just hasn’t got it) who isn’t a yes man. Someone with class, experience and knowledge of top flight football. Don’t ask me who, but I’m sure they’re out there. Maybe he also needs a boss whom he is accountable to, as I cant think who the person would be when he needs a rocket, albeit a small one. That’s all healthy and will make him grow in my opinion.
Ive been a Cherries fan for 45 years. Put all my spare time (and cash) into MY beloved club and feel grateful and proud that the team shirt says Premier league on a little badge. Who’d of thought It!

No he hasn't,but I think we have gone very stale over the last ten months.Apart from a few games,we seem to be devoid of ways to change matches in which we're losing or not performing in.I think a new member of backroom staff wouldn't be a bad idea, just for some different input.Eddie is and will always be the greatest manager we've had,but sometimes another person with new ideas might help.Eddie does seem to be stubborn in his ways, which has got us where we are, granted, but will it get us further who knows

We are in a group of teams in mid table that when we win a few we rise to 10th but lose a few then fall to 15th. No shame in that and that is hugely impressive but I feel that’s the best we can do short term as we don’t kick on after a run of wins, seem to get too complacent. Personally think we will get relegated when Eddie leaves

If Eddie were to go it would be like an amputation. The patient (AFCB) would survive but what would the effect be? No-one will know until after it happens. A long time yet I hope!

Even with a 55 thousand seater stadium, we'd still see Francis play right back !

Not for me....as an old hand this is a once in a lifetime fantasy.

You know a couple of weeks ago we deservedly beat Man Utd at home in a league game? Not a friendly, testimonial or League Cup game.

And I think we have won a league game at Southampton for the first time ever. And we have players playing at all levels for the national side.

This doesn't happen by chance. Of course there are mistakes eg the formation on Saturday. Same error made it seems by Brighton v Leicester on Saturday.

And if Eddie went under the proverbial managerial bus just who would step in. Not many lining up to replace him - maybe a Pulis/Redknapp Sandbanks tribute act. Big Sam or Moyes. No thanks : not for me.

Some tough games ahead - lets get behind the team and not on their backs

Going back to the time of Harold Walker and John Bond, there was a lot of excitement around the area and the crowds came flocking back in their thousands.

Then when Bond left to go to Norwich he took a number of our best players with him.

Gradually the bubble burst, crowds started drifting away and the exciting entertaining football had gone.

Some on here will remember the ‘Walker Stand’.

If Eddie left would we gradually be in that scenario as well?

I want Eddie to stay as long as he can, I can remember those years of very mundane football.

We are going through a sticky patch, but we have come back before, I wondered how long before a thread like this might come up, because there have been ‘silent murmurings’ on other threads.
