Sounds like Saints posturing and trying to send a message to their own fans. We are going to have to sell but we'll make it out that Van Dijk and Liverpool are in cahoots. Seems to be a common theme with Saints players leaving and the way Saints themselves paint their departures.

I am not sure what an illegal approach is nowadays given the role of agents and the way they represent their clients i.e. Liverpool speak to agent to agree a deal and then bid to saints without the need to speak directly to the player
 
...I would like us to take a punt on Monaco's centre back Sanchez, it may be that we could tempt him with a shot at The PL?

I had the impression that Ake to Southampton was always part of a deal to get Van Dijk to Chelsea, not Southampton making a bid for Ake.
 
Who's Sanchez? Though to be leaving the French champions and Champs league semi finalists would be quite a jump
 
...I know cockbeard...but what is wrong with us pitching in against some of these clubs? for the sake of progress. I am not saying that we will maybe get close to them, but it would be good to put ourselves in the mix..
 
I quite fancied Glik last summer before he signed for Monaco but figured that we can't really compete. No problem with throwing our hat in the ring, I'm mostly wondering who this Sanchez is, I've simply never heard of him

 
Perhaps Garbo meant Davinson Sanchez who plays CB for Ajax?

In which case he clearly doesn't know his Ajax from his Monaco :grin:
 
He's had some good reviews, but I think that whole Ajax side are about seven years old aren't they? Not so sure about having such a young player in such an important position. Ake made me nervous enough
 
I don't think failing to sign Aké would be the end of the world, certainly at the fee being touted.

However we then go back to the debate every window as to why we are unable to recruit a CB after x many windows, but can sign strikers and wingers at will. It's a valid point too

Look at the transfer fees for bang average centre backs and that is the reason.
 
...apologies did mean Ajax....still hungover from our top ten finish obviously!

...and I would take paying 15 million for Sanchez over Ake for a centre back!
