Interesting story. Droylsden FC (The Bloods) play about two miles away from Ashton. The club has just reformed after hitting the buffers during Covid. They are now 3/4 rungs below Ashton United, having been in the same league at the time of their demise. Crowds for their home pre-season friendlies exceeded 1000, and their first home league gate was almost 1000. Ashton does has a rival in Curzon Ashton but it is indeed gratifying to see that Droylsden is truly a community club.
