Non - Boris Johnson

Not that the by-elections bother me, but it really does just highlight where these politicians' priorities lie: 100% to themselves and their own egos.

In Boris Johnson’s case it is all to do with money. If he was drummed out of Parliament his lucrative round of speaking engagements would be worth a lot less or might even dry up entirely.

By resigning, he paints himself as a martyr and keeps his snout firmly in the trough.

Exactly. He walks now before he's pushed, whilst railing against the conspiracy against him and damaging Sunak in the eyes of his supporters. Then when the Tories are battered in the election next year he makes a comeback as the party saviour. It's so calculated it could be sponsored by Casio.

Proudly politically naive, so how does this work?

He wouldn’t be a sitting MP, his party would be in opposition and he wouldn’t have a chance to be elected for another 5 years?

And at that point the Tories have either won power back with a new leader, giving Boris zero momentum for his own power grab. Or Labour stay in power and Boris is waiting for another 5 years?

Can we have placards outside Westminster with “ boobless” and “ esso oil ” written in Casio calculator style ?

In that five years there will be byelections. All he needs is one in a safe Tory seat and he's back. Meanwhile, he can build a power base of MP supporters that bang the drum for him and then there are the party members, for whom he still seems to be the messiah, who can kick up a stink for him.

It doesn't have to be an exact plan of when this will happen or this being the exact chain of events, that's just an example. The point is he'll be sitting on the sidelines and waiting for the opportunity to come riding in on his white horse to the rescue.

He has a big enough ego to try and set up a new party, great if he did he could take all the nutters with him and allow the Conservative Party a chance to recover some credibility

He has enough self interest to be the front man for a new party provided it is fully funded by other people or public funds.

His principles are definitely for hire,

Except it won’t be his white horse. It’ll be one he’s blagged off someone, and if he ever gives it back it’ll probably be lame.
