Non - Interesting piece about Schalke.

Many years ago, I used to live just next door to Gelsenkirchen and knew many Schalke fans. They are a bit like, say, Newcastle : huge, passionate support that's been starved of success for generations.

That whole area was once full of coal mines and steelworks (I used to go past the famous Krupp plant every day on my way to work) and the fans of all the clubs in the Ruhr area are very proud of their working-class heritage.
