By all accounts a thoroughly nice bloke. The video of support he sent to the England Rugby team when he heard they were singing the Gambler before matches during the World Cup was very funny.

Although most associated with country, his psychedelic song, "I just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in" was pretty good.

His brother Harlan was responsible for signing the 13th Floor Elevators
