unless we have a complete open border people will always risk getting here by whatever dodgy method they can, they know as soon as they land on our beaches they are safe here as even if they are in a detention centre it is alot better then where they came from.
unfortunately the only way to slow this down will be making where they came from a better prospect for them then life here and that may take a world wide effort not just a few nations.

Well if that's the way then OK....if two big bollux Nations of the standing of Britain and France cannot come together and facilitate a solution...the two Navies sitting in port doing bugger-all while these people and their kids potentially perish.at sea...if they don't make the shore.
Politicians are not doing their jobs... basically..that's where it's at.

Sadly, as a direct result of Brexit, Anglo-French relations are at a lifetime low. It's a bit like a messy divorce with neither party wanting to give way.

why do we need to give them money to stop people on their territory getting into over-loaded and ill equipped craft knowing they are putting their lives, and the lives of potential rescuers, at risk?

Is their moral obligation to these people greater than ours then? Personally I'm happy to see them being rescued by the RNLI if they are in danger but it seems the people who complain about the French letting these people put their lives at risk don't think the same.

Perhaps we don't need to pay at all. Just let them all come. I really don't have a problem with that.

However, it would appear our committed (they should be) government made an agreement which, although they have not (yet) reneged on, they have not (yet) kept by making a payment.

Tbf there have been bilateral agreements and payments going on for years.

They're coming from France. If a UK detention centre is better than (relative) freedom in France, then life in France must be pretty awful.

I like it, make Asylum priority based on merit rather than need.

The richest and strongest who are most willing and able to leave their country to rob and murder their way across the globe should naturally sit at the front of the queue.

A real life Hunger Games...

The history of uk land ownership is all about the strongest and richest having more than they need
