I see Nigel Owens is retiring from rugby refereeing, do you think we might persuade him to take up 'soccer'. I'd love to see him work on some of our prima donnas.
If he could make football refereeing anywhere near the standard of Rugby Union it would be a great appointment. Can't see him being approached or wanting to do it though.
I'm not sure the powers that be in English/British football would be welcoming of a Rugby man unfortunately. But I think we could do a lot worse than get a penny for Owen's thoughts. Player conduct, team work between officials, chaotic video tech, all areas that football could use some input.
Our referees could do a lot worse than sit down and watch him at work but above all listen to his management of players. Of course the games are different, as are player attitudes, but his calm, assured, measured authority is priceless.
