Non: Sala, Cardiff and Nantes

Unfortunately where the plane appears to have come down is one of the most tidal and treacherous seas in the world. Mid winter couldn't be worse too. Search called off until tomorrow at 5pm. Hope for the best but fear the very worst. Let's at least hope that this episode has some closure.

Place Royal in Nantes just now.
Accepting what has happened is part of the grieving process.

Such bleak news. There is I suppose still a thin thread of hope, but barely that. My thoughts are with his family, friends and his former team mates to whom he had just said his farewells.

There might still be good news.

Police searching for the plane carrying footballer Emiliano Sala are prioritising the theory that he and the pilot made it on to a life raft.

One of my closest friends was the island skipper on the nearby island of Herm. Life raft or not, even during warmer weather, it would difficult to survive... let alone mid-winter in those waters. As much as we all hope for a fairytale ending, sadly it’s not going to happen.

The Piper Malibu plane that Sala was travelling in had a 'questionable' safety record with 55 fatal crashes including 24 since 2000.

Former pilot Alastair Rosenschein said the plane may have become iced-up in the Arctic blast currently sweeping across northern Europe including the UK and France.

He said: 'It's already a fairly risky crossing to do in a single engine aircraft, especially in winter and definitely at night. There are icing problems too. It's a strange thing to do though to go and fly over water with one engine at night in winter because if your engine goes you're going in the water'.

I thought that myself being the time of year and the temperatures on land are cold enough at night.

Just trying to give bit of positivity to a sad story.

This from the Sky story earlier.

The footballer reportedly voiced fears about the safety of the missing plane in a WhatsApp audio message he sent to friends while on board.

In the message, a voice - reported to be Sala - is heard saying: "I am here in the plane that seems is about to fall to pieces."

This is the plane and the pilot involved according to my second link.

There appears to be a wide ranging agreement that using a single engine plane to cross open water,at night at this time of year isn't the best of ideas. Add an expensive PL footballer into the mix and you get a lot of questions asked over who organised this. They appear to be suggesting the player himself made the arrangements.

There is an interesting thread here from people who know their stuff https://www.pprune.org/accidents-cl...rcraft-disappeared-near-channel-island-2.html

That's what I was wondering, was it Cardiff that sorted the plane out?

I hope we don't fly any of our players about in such a small 5 seater aircraft. Just can't understand the urgency to fly him back at night in such a small plane especially when Cardiff don't have a weekend fixture.

Desperately hope Sala and the plilot managed to get into a liferaft and are found alive.

Prefer to just stick to budget airlines tbh - as compared to any private plane/jet whatever.

So it seems Cardiff didn't arrange it, but someone must have known what was going on. Just so avoidable!

That second thread, although full of acronyms that are hard for the layman to follow, is fascinating stuff, in a morbid and calculated sort of way. The line "did we not learn anything from Buddy Holly" paints a very clear picture.
