It’s gone to pot. It used to be that the ref would let the game continue if the aggrieved team had a real goal scoring opportunity. Now, it’s play on if they have possession even when a free kick would be much more of an advantage.

Very true, there’s no thought behind the decision.

Would the team prefer a free kick 25 yards out with a direct striking opportunity, or as they have the ball still but trapped in the corner with three defenders shall I play on....play on...
