QPR v BBAFC 7 Jan 1967 FA Cup Rd 2 - Roll Call

First Team
Who was there 57 years ago, almost to the day ?

My second ever away match, just 14. Steam hauled train up to Waterloo. It was a total no-hoper as QPR were runaway leaders of Division 3. They had already comprehensively beaten us 3-1 at Dean Court and had reached the semi-final of the League Cup.

However it was the FA Cup and Poole Town had restricted them to a 3-2 win at Loftus Rd in the first round. We had to do better.

They had a great team with the flair of Rodney Marsh, the Morgan twins and the power, commitment and skill of a host of tough, seasoned pros like Mark Lazarus, Mike Keen, Mike Langley and centre forward Les Allan (Clive Allan's father) and some talented younger players.

Going into the match Marsh had scored 32 goals, Allan 16, Roger Morgan 11 and Lazarus 10.

All around the ground their fans sang "Rodnee, Rodnee" in honour of their hero. Don't recall us ever being in the match.

At the time the ground was very basic, floodlights had only been used from the beginning of that season. We sat in the stand on the first picture on the link below. No complaints about restricted view.

Be warned, there are a lot of pictures of grounds in days gone by in this archive. You may be there longer than intended.
