The out of contract players

Think a few people need to remind themselves of how poor some of the bottom half squads are before deciding that a couple of our players with 100+ premier league appearances under their belt are not worth signing on a free transfer as first team backups (as a minimum).

Don’t necessarily disagree, but you also have to remember how much money is available to spend in the Prem, even towards the bottom of the table. When we were there we weren’t shopping around for Championship free transfers, we were trying to buy top talent from abroad or the very best young players from the Football league.

Signing Middlesbrough’s aging centre back or Stokes 29/30 year old injury prone winger would never even cross our minds as a serious proposition.

Adam Federici and Sylvain Distin in year 1 - ok Feds was a keeper and Distin was from a premier league side but in the same sort of bracket?
Glenn Murray and Tomlin as well although we paid money for them IIRC.....

I also thought we signed Marc Wilson that year but turns out that was the season after - and we paid 2mil for him - horrific!
