Bristol City

I had to go out at around the 15 minute mark; I thought we were playing pretty well. Has it all gone downhill in the latter stages of the half, or was I wearing rose tints?

Brizzle have understood the instruction that in football it helps to pass and move. Their number 20 looks pretty useful with an excellent range of passing. I just hope that the explanation for our dismal display is that they have had a hard training session this morning. Looking forward to seeing some of the U21s in the 2nd half.

At the game. Started bright but we've gone off the boil. Not getting down the wings or running with the ball in midfield. Ibe the usual culprit for not passing and losing the ball. Too much sideways passing. If we can't get the ball to the front two we're not going to score.

Defensively Brad Smith has been caught inside too often. At times we're all very sloppy. Hope Eddie has given them a rollicking at half time.

There's a lethargy about our play. Second best to every semi-loose ball. Not quick enough to move the ball when we have it either. One positive is Mings who hasn't done much wrong and seems to be playing with no fear whatsoever - not showing any rustiness either which is surprising. Good lad !

I don't know Brad Smith's history but even at Liverpool he struck me as a defender who saw himself as an attacking player. It always seemed to me that he was not good enough as an attacker and never looked happy when asked to defend. Nothing he has done with us has caused me to question my first impression. Is he converted from another position ? He doesn't strike me as a willing defender. Never seen him get stuck in or knock himself out trying to get back. Hard to see what use he will be to us in the future. It's like he's not one thing nor the other.

Wasn't all that pretty but it's always hard to read too much into these preseason games. Still, I don't think it should look so disjointed.
