Jim Ratcliffe has withdrawn his interest in buying Chelsea and will instead buy AFC Bournemouth, which will be renamed Ineos Bournemouth.

A new monorail will be built linking Hurn Airport, a new 30,000 capacity stadium in Kings Park and Boscombe pier, so that Ben Ainslie can pop by and Mr Ratcliffe has somewhere to moor his super yacht.

When asked “why Bournemouth?” Jim Ratcliffe said “I managed to knock £17 million off the asking price and I always like a bargain”.

If true and we do buy back the ground surely it’ll be full steam ahead for filling in the corners and a larger south stand?

Not necessarily. The lack of progress with the training ground demonstrates that.

Also the previous planning application was not the best long term solution - no corporate seats to maximise income and, most importantly, no way of moving the pitch to the south to enable future expansion of the main and north stands. Once Canford is built it would also mean the club owning the Kings Park training pitches with no use for them.

Far better to do a land swap and build the new stand behind the Ted Mac, shuffling the pitch 20/30 metres to the south. That allows two further developments: a second tier of mostly corporate seats above the main stand and a much larger north stand.

No point building on current site, especially now we have permission to build on athletics stadium, still need to buy it back though as land swap was part of deal and needed to satisfy parks acts
