Fixed that for him, "We can guarantee that we will never go up."
my first thought too!Stick it up the plastics Bondy da da da
The journey back was long and miserable but my best memory of that match was when I turned off the m6 and headed into Carlisle the amount of Cherries fans who'd made the trip. Red n black everywhere. That journey back from Carlisle wasn't very exciting.
I agree though, never really had much problem with bond. He's no Quinn or Groves.

Since Bond's appointment at Southend, a certain Harry Redknapp has been spotted at their training ground, and was pictured watching from the stand for their game away at Fleetfood on Saturday (2-2 draw). 'Arry is expected to attend "as many games as he can” and “He is going to be one of Southend’s biggest supporters that is for sure!"
Hmmmmmm
Is that the season we didn't win a home game until Gillingham in the December?
That would have explained the points struggle....
I have always believed that Bond's team's late run of form where we nearly survived actually masked the real truth. Chubby Cherry's comment above hits the nail on the head. If it takes you 4 months to get your first home win of a season, then you are quite likely to be in trouble. As far as I'm concerned, it was this that sent us down, not the points deduction. Also his alienation/removal of senior players that he possibly viewed as a potential threat, Younger, Fletch, Browning etc
Southend will need some luck
How can it not be down to the points deduction? Without that we'd have comfortably stayed up.

The points deduction gave the players and manager a new excuse. They were no longer in that position because we were awful, it was “because of the points deduction”.
(16 losses before the trip to Luton in January.)
That enabled them to play without fear because we were down regardless of mistakes and the blame had been shifted.
So we had ten points docked, went down by a couple of points but the deduction wasn't the reason we went down?
The crapness at the start of the year was down to the manager but the decent performances at the end weren't?
Got it.
Glad you got it.
Remember the dreary repetitive Friday night pre-match excuses?
The dross football, seeming lack of any tactics? Defeat after defeat?
Recall the motionless and emotionless figure of the son of a former Bournemouth manager stood on the touchline at Swansea while the players themselves took control and made the win?
I spent half an hour on the phone with Kevin Bond after Swansea and I asked him to explain to me his actual contribution to the team. He couldn't. He was clueless.
The overall record in terms of percentage of matches lost was far worse than Quinn or Benson.
We really were managerless between SOD and Quinn.
I was being sarcastic. I'm not saying it was great but that ten point deduction was literally the reason we went down.
