Asmir Begovic

Why do we loan players out so often? Arter, Defoe, Begovic, Hyndman, B. Smith all given loans rather than permanent transfers when none of them have a realistic chance of ever playing for us again?

Sometimes players need another chance to prove themselves before a decent permanent fee could be achieved, maybe?
If Begovic impresses over there, he may actually have value (whereas now, he has little).
Mings being the perfect example.

It’s not just us. Lots of clubs are having to loan players instead of selling.

In the case of Begovic the reason is obvious. Clubs don’t want to buy him permanently and he probably doesn’t want to commit to 3 years or so in Azerbaijan

Sometimes financially a loan is the best deal we can get.

Other clubs looking for a short term fix and spend over the odds for it like £2million for Tyrone Mings for 4 months of football.

Very rich country. May well be a great deal financially. Probably not Asmir’s first choice so maybe even some additional incentives...or perhaps the fans are all just very polite.

I wonder if he'll take his kids along when the locals slaughter a goat in his honour?!

There isn't a single team in this league with 4 senior goalkeepers available for selection- 4 is far too many. Getting Begovic out and off the wage bill is an essential piece of business.

Bit of a shame how it's turned out, considering his first year with us was pretty successful. But the stats don't lie.
