Non - Brexit

It's not my argument I'm just saying what I've read. If you're not Jewish you living there is irrelevant - they are saying it's a trope and they would know. You wouldn't.

So I'm not allowed an opinion based on my experience but you are because you're repeating somebody elses?! o_O

And just because some people say it's a trope it therefore must be and cannot be challenged?

Also, if "...it's not my argument..." why didn't you simply post 'it looks like Patel may have accidentally repeated an anti-semetic trope'?

Instead you attacked her and then when challenged did a reverse ferret and started defending her...

What is this - SDD joins the Richard Keogh school of clear thinking?!

That aside, North London is massive. Many parts are historically or currently linked to various communities but to assume the whole of North London is 'jewish' is niave at best.

But, as always, you know better than everyone else...

The problem with the Tories and this 'elite' and 'establishment' stuff they come up with is that it's complete lies - it's probably the one most annoying trick that they play.

OK, I'm sure that there some of this so called 'north London metropolitan liberal elite' that might seem like they know it all (they're people like that everywhere, right?) but for the Tories to come out and try to convince the working class that they care more for them than these so called elites do is complete rubbish, a con trick.

The Tories and their rich media buddies funding them 'are' the Elites. Like stuff in the Brexit debate, I'd have more respect for folk if they were more honest.

Of course, just like Trump, the Tories claim to be for the people when they're anything but. The reality is that all the main parties are in bed 'the elites' in some way.

However, my point was that SDD was having a go at Patel for using anti-semetic tropes, but then saying she wasn't when challenged, and after that then saying it wasn't his opinion anyway!

You should re-read what I said. I didn't attack her or say she was anti-Semitic I just said she'd used the trope and pointed out the double standard in relation to Corbyn and labour. He's inadvertently used tropes in the past and been slaughtered for it - perhaps validly given the problems in his party but to me it seems inconsistent.

Tbh I can't say I really understand some of these tropes and certainly didn't know things like this or "rootless cosmopolitans" are used as euphemisms and dog whistles against Jewish people. You can understand why they are so sensitive about these things given the history involved so if they say it's an anti-Semitic trope then that's good enough for me.

As far as you are concerned you've flown off the handle having a pop at me because you think I've said something I haven't. As I say it's not my argument - my argument was just about the inconsistent reactions. No sign of Rachel Riley on this one and she seems to be all over these things usually.

Your original post on this was clearly an attack. Surely you can be big enough to own that.

And was there a double standard?

People with big followings tweeted about it and had a go at her, you repeated those... So she definitely got hounded about this, unfairly or not.

And I'm sorry but just because some people claim some phrases or terms mean something it doesn't make that an unchallengeable fact... as we know all too well on this forum!

And to deny someone else's view because the other group said different is absolutely ridiculous.

My post was what I said it was.

As I say these people have said it's a trope, I don't know but I'm happy to take their opinion of it on board because they know more about it than me. Neither me or the people that are tweeting about it are particularly attacking her, they and I have just said it was a bit careless.

You've given me your opinion based on the fact you used to live there. I've listen to it and decided it doesn't add anything useful to their opinion so I've dismissed it as irrelevant.

You're trying to start a fight in a phone box about this - I don't feel very strongly about it - just an observation that I perceive a double standard. I could be wrong. I'm not particularly interested in your view on it though.

Something to brighten the mood, don't think remainers and leavers will ever agree & we can go round in circles for days, last 3 pages much the same and barely any new content regarding the PM's latest Backstop alternative.

Sorry I know climate change is something we should all be aware of but come on, can't see how this sort of things helps, wasting fuel on a fire truck, not to mention clean up operation and then this happens..........

So....here we are...a month of picking the flyshit out of the pepper....as if we hadnt been doing that for 3 years!
We have now reached another occasion of ...that bit where..." the EU always wait until just before a deadline..then bring something to the table ..to save the day."

OK....or KO ?. lets see....the likelyhood that ..that something ..will be another extension..thereby moving it further along towards the death of Brexit ( Brexit - as was promulgated circa 2016!).

Eventually the flyshit becomes too indistinguishable from the pepper.....and its..
"What we gonna do?". " I dunno- whatja wanna do ? "

Agree it was a bad stunt, but like you said above, things can go round in circles and for some of them they think its been the same for years, promises made then nothing done. The UK has been good at cutting its emissions, but they think more could be done. I think more could be done as well, however its tough to say to say China or India they have to stop doing what they are doing. A lot of pollution they create is used for our consumption. I'm no fan of the current govt, but i think these campaigners have also stepped it up on the back of the anti Tory bandwagon which many are on due to austerity and brexit etc.

Pray for a day...post Brexit....when I can walk into a chip shop....be served by someone Not wearing a stupid hat...does Not say "enjoy"....and wraps it all up in British newspaper!....Oh the joy!

OK I'm not getting involved - just had to get my 'elite' rant of my chest! arrghhhh!! :grinning:

Back to the courts in Scotland what a farce, so courts can't rule on the women that took the pensions case to court for the reasons "It's not the courts place to rule on government policy" but we can have cases taken to courts in Scotland to try and hamper a democratic vote of the people.

He's an interesting one, certainly has more than an interesting past......., however I questioned his support for the Teresa May deal. Which certainly wasn't a deal the country voted for,

lol One of them was a policy which went through the house, the other was a shutting down of the house thereby stopping the democratic process.

Please tell me you understand the difference?
