Liverpool - The Verdict

Putting this one down to incredible bad luck against the best team in Europe.

It really is a repeat of the 89-90 season when the injuries just kept coming, and that
ended in relegation.

Positives are, we are unlikely to sell a crocked Ake in January, or Wilson for that matter.

God knows what team we can put out next week. We might have to dip in to our
"Prince Andrew" squad.....The Under 18's.

It’s not bad luck. Our players are strained having spent the last two seasons chasing the game rather than dictating it. The difference between 60% possession and 35% possession is a whole heap of running.

Fair enough but I’m just saying I don’t think our injury crisis is luck. It’s a reflection of the huge physical effort we put into chasing games.
Lol im sorry Dr Dawson but Ake did his Hamstring by over reaching while tackling Salah....theres nothing you can do about that.....in fact my criticism of our style of play is that we dont chase the ball enough.... nowhere near as much as we used to imo....instead we sit in formation and counter attack.

The verdict-. Relegation fodder. All the boxes are getting ticked . Injuries, lack of quality in the squad, players who don't want to play for us. Bottom line is we ain't very good as much as we love to believe we are. Our squad is not premier League quality. Relegation looms
Our squad is premier league quality. We kept all of our players and added good players to it. It wasn’t that long ago that the wisdom on here was it was the best squad we ever had.

Christ what drivel, since when did our players play anymore than anyone else's.
Chasing which games exactly in our mid table finishes
We used to regularly have 60% possession. We now regularly have 35- 40% possession this is a well recognised fact CB. It’s harder work chasing the ball than it is playing with it. This leads to tiredness and tired bodies get injured.

Fair enough to disagree with this but it’s not drivel it’s logic! What do you put our injuries down to In the two seasons since we changed to counter attacking football? Coincidence? Luck?

We dont chase the ball Neil....thats a fundamental ploy of all counter attacking teams....stay in formation and then break.

All injuries happen in one instance, the susceptibility is built up over time and that is what I am talking about. Two seasons of chronic injuries under a new style of play. It may well just be coincidence but I don’t think it is.

Throw injuries on top of the complete lack of confidence and it spells big big trouble. Toughest period in years coming up. This is really going to test Howe's skills.

Positive is that hopefully Lewis Cook has played his way into the side possibly even with three in the middle. Apparently Howe has said that he doesn't like three in the middle because you need a box to box midfielder to pull it off correctly and he doesn't think we have one. Gosling being the closest to that type of player.

What about the first season on the premier league?
What was the injuries then down to?

We see the game very differently, which is part of life’s rich tapestry. I wasn’t there today but watching on TV all I saw was a bunch of exhausted players running all over the park trying in vain to get the ball. The commentators in the US were saying how exhausted we were and begging for the final
Whistle.

Result wise, couldn't really care. It's about par for the expected course.

Issues for me are

The continued selection from Eddie in a game that desperately needed 3 in midfield. Franno instead of Stacey?

The likes of Billing, Callum and Wee Man seemingly going through the motions with zero impact on the game.

Ake is the very sour twist in all this. Looked a bad one and he's desperately needed.

I’d imagine, again, players a little out of their depth chasing the game. We switched formation eventually to five in midfield moving King up front and stayed largely injury free then had two seasons of relatively great injury records (Stanislas aside) keeping the ball for long spells and not chasing it.

So in a multi million pound industry where many many teams of all types have had injury crises and will be desperate to put their fingers on the causes due to how much it costs them.... It's taken Neil Dawson, part time tactics guru, to solve the mystery. I'm sure the hundreds of people that work and study these things will be slapping their foreheads as to why they didn't come up with this first.

Obviously they'll first have to ignore all of the evidence of injury crises at clubs that dominate the ball... such as afcb a few years back.

I think the damming words here are the commentators in the us! Haha now they're the experts to support your argument
