Non - Pandemic

I wonder how 'names' are going onto the payroll of small businesses tonight to claim for the up to £2500 per person a month compo.

Let me guess, Taxi companies, takeaways and corner shops will suddenly be tripling their staff.... probably need an army of fraud Investigators to weed them out.

Surely the NI office and HMRC has a good idea of who is employed and where?

There's a massive sub section of the community who aren't on any record. My guess is some will be double quick and their brothers and their brothers brothers. There will also be people on the NI / HMRC database who were suddenly re employed last month.

Just the cynic in me based on a long lost career of dealing with fukwits

You would hope some sort of working history would have to be there. No record of NI payments or Tax being paid should mean a hell of a lot of questions to be answered.

I understand your frustration but there’s a lot of decent people who are going to get help. There will also be a host of shady businesses taking advantage of having their employees paid 80% of their wages by the government. It works both ways.

Anyone under £166 a week doesn't pay Tax or NI. The advice is 'You must tell HMRC about your new employee on or before their first pay day '....there's a big old 30 day loop hole there that will get rapidly filled in some quarters.

Frustrated ? Just pointing out how this rushed through legislation will attract the pariahs ... I think its brilliant, see my previous post on the last raft of legislation.

I doubt many takeaways or corner shops will have much joy claiming Coronavirus hardship.

I walked down Poole Quay this afternoon and every food outlet was shut.

When the pub closure kicks in at midnight...thousands of kebab shops and takeaways will close or have their business substantially impacted.

I'm more talking forum dynamics Rob. It hasn't quite hit the heights of the 'Not fit to wear the shirt thread' but in an Al style way having been put firmly back in my box a few weeks back by a certain Individual I'll be asking for an honest assessment of how he and his highly paid colleagues got it so wrong. I'll spare it for now as we can't see any sign of a conclusion or end to this. When its over expect some serious RH type questioning ;)

Whilst I agree with this I think this is a profession that should be cut a lot of slack at this point in time.

Fair point. Of course many will do well from delivery and takeaway business but by the looks of the supermarket shelves people are going to be eating pasta and uht milk for the next three months.

Most curry houses are two pronged I guess. Shut the restaurant and ramp up the deliveries . Many Italian restaurants have been outdone by Dominos in the pizza market so will struggle. Your Kebab places ? I mean thats hardly a home delivery before its a soggy mess.

Personally I'm going balls out to support my local businesses. The problem is last time I ordered a curry they cloned my card, Insured about 10 cars, booked a few 5 star hotels in Surrey and purchased a load of Apple products online. Yep basic mistake.

I've had a lovely chicken kebab tonight delivered from a local restaurant as it goes. There's a couple of Italians near me doing deliveries that I intend try.

You're right, we've got to do what we can to help the businesses that are struggling if we can. I think a lot of us feel pretty hopeless when we see the doctors, cleaners, shelf stackers, delivery drivers, etc. fighting our corner when we're not adding much that really matters.

Hopefully when we're out of this there will be a collective will for us all to succeed and we'll back each other to recovery. Like the long boom after WW2.

Deaths in Italy were outrageous today, we're heading that way in just over a week if things carry on - which I can't think of any reason why we wouldn't.

London hospital has declared an emergency already due to capacity - once we hit that in other places this will soon accelerate.

Talk of finishing the season is wildly optimistic imo, unless we're going to pick up where we left of this time next year.....

With potentially 600 brits are dying a day and the country is in lockdown - when the PL next meet I can't see a message like their last one being too palatable with he public.

Boris is on it....so don't panic!

Not sure we expected much else in London.
Too many people crammed together...and most from other places...just here to make money...they don't actually care about Britain.

Rich Nigerians. Rich Saudis. Rich Americans ...Bet yer sweet ar$e none of them catch it...our Resident Trending BatPox..sods law....
Nah..it will be Fred Bargepole from Deptford or Johnny Baggins from Millwall...or Diane the Dinnerlady from Brentford. Pah!

Just raw unfiltered opinion.

Brilliant move to pay 80% of wages to protect jobs. Not sure how they'll pay for it, which if Corbyn had done it you can guarantee would be the only question being asked on the front pages. This is going to leave governments all over in a massive mess and no doubt people down the line as more services are cut to pay back debts.

agree the 80% thing is great. wish there was such a thing as universal basic income, then all of this may have been simpler and self-employed/sole traders like me would get at least some assistance. I also think the max limit of £2500 is too high, just my opinion - think the dosh could be shared out more. but I do appreciate the efforts made, and its impossible to appease everyone.

My GP, this week, said that, despite my poor health, I'm more likely to die crossing the road than from the virus, provided I take proper precautions with hygiene. So basically no crossing the road then? Who knows what lies ahead and what effect current restrictions will have. It's the great unknown! If everyone can obey the rules great, but there are always going to be some who won't.
