Non - Pandemic

One of the only positives with this is it’s happening in Spring, would be so much worse if this was October time with worse weather and darker miserable days.

Another 793 deaths in one day in Italy.

Will it get that bad here ?!

Appear to have been two weeks behind them for some time now following similar path. 56 more deaths reported in the UK

It ain't looking good bearing in mind they have double the ICU capacity than we do.

Two weeks today Italy had exactly 233 deaths. A pretty ominous sign. Just announced over 1000 new cases here too.

Looking at Italy, 2 weeks ago tomorrow was the day things really jumped. If that happens here tomorrow I guess it’s time to fear the worst

The really worrying thing is their lockdown started about two weeks ago so it should be starting to show. Doesn't seem much evidence of that. Doesn't seem much willingness for a proper lockdown here either.

Inflation is surely a massive risk. Half the country will be skint and the other half will have spent sod all for months and are going to be wanting to buy things and go on trips etc all at the same time. Simultaneously there will be limited businesses and those that are left will have costs to cover from months of zero trade. Inflation.
Yes, as noted inflation is an inherent risk. But, if the govt spends "whatever it takes" (US talking about $2T, financial crisis was about $850B), businesses and people could come back into the marketplace fairly quickly. There will definitely be pent-up demand, but if the supply side comes back, price escalation should not be a given.

This of course plays into the "spend/socialism" tendencies attributed to the left, especially as postulated by the extreme progressives in the current US election, for medicare for all, free university, etc. Not bad things at all, but explains the left v. right arguments. As a historical "rightie", I will definitely note that some of the biggest government deficits that I have seen in my life were under conservative governments.

I think there have been some success stories in some of the small northern towns which went into complete lockdown. What we are seeing now in Italy is that it’s accelerating in other parts of the country.

I almost feel it’s already too late for London. If other parts of the country took the advice seriously now, they might be able to slow it but people don’t seem to be doing this.

Yes they really ramped up from the point we are currently at . Someone has pointed out that the majority in hospital today would probably have caught it in the last two weeks...two weeks back we were all cramming into football grounds, pubs etc. A few days back we were still cramming into pubs / cafes. We are still cramming into supermarkets and pharmacies.

Italy locked down 12 days ago and its carnage. My guess is that we'll lockdown in the next few days so more panic buying.

The lockdown in the rest of Italy happened on 12th March so 2 weeks won’t actually be until Thursday. Either way, when Italy did finally act it was more decisively and their citizens by and large bought into it.
