Howe

Honestly, if we were neutrals, over the season everyone would say we deserve to go down.
We were terrible last night. Not sure Eddie will stay after we go down, should he have a choice anyway?

We'll lose at least Ake, C Wilson, King, Brooks, Lerma and Rambo.

We'll be back where we began in League 1 in 3 years time.

No infrastructure built. Can't see the new training centre completed now.

3 years time? It could be in just over a year.

Conservative predictable football from a side that cannot defend. Watch Ayew running at both our full backs....we dont have that level of movement and unpredictability

It’s common leadership theory that your greatest strength is also your greatest weakness. The world’s greatest leaders in all fields find a way to overcome their strengths becoming their weakness.

Eddie is clearly stubborn. He put together a style of football years ago that everybody said wouldnt work in the championship and he refused to listen or change. By bucking the trend and ignoring everyone, even after two consecutive five goal defeats, he produced the best side the championship had ever seen.

Moving up to the prem all the experts pointed out that he would have to change. He ignored them completely and that side continued to play a style of football suicide that was a joy to watch, took some hammerings for sure, but comfortably stayed in the league providing huge entertainment. Every expert advice ignored.

After three years of blitzkreig football and the goals against column bleeding Eddie decided an evolution was needed. He wanted to protect his back four by sitting deeper and crucially not using his full backs as second wingers. It started well for half a season because teams set up against us expecting the old Bournemouth and were caught out. By the second time they played us they had it sussed probably delighted as we had become a far easier team to play against as we had self nullified our key strength.

No longer attacking sides means our defence is under constant pressure and even bang average sides beat us comfortably something that didn’t happen often in our first few seasons. Once again the experts are seeing the issue and calling it. We can all see it. You can see the players can see it. Eddie remains as stubborn as ever, hence not changing in three months of down time. As he has assembled what I would imagine to be an unchallenging coaching team you wonder if they have the ability to question it.

Does Eddie deserve a chance if we go down... yes in my book as he is proven at that level and look what he did for us.... you deserve a bad year or two after that. People should show more respect. I don’t think he will want to stay though and that’s the bigger problem for us as a club as we haven’t the infrastructure to recreate what was a magical stubborn fluke. We shouldn’t get above ourselves. We are built on one man.

The proper legacy would be a style of play that is coached at all levels throughout the club. Bizzarely the u18s and u21s play a slick passing style of positive football, the first team has stagnated into a pass back or sideways then give the ball away.

What worries me is that in last nights post match interview he said that the players really picked up from the first drinks break onwards.

He said he thought the team were well prepared and expected a top performance from them. Wow! He must have been more disappointed than us.

But no. He thought we really improved during the game. Slow, predictable, turgid football completely lacking in entertainment and excitement. God bless him, but he has lost the plot.

 would rather go down with Eddie and have him rebuild in the championship than have big Sam bore us to death in the prem for one extra season
But atleast he would get a bit of passion from the team as eddie does not seem to be able to get a tune from the team for about 12-14 months

Where did it all go so wrong? We were this fast paced attacking team with overlapping full backs who were either going to win 6-0 or lose 5-1 but it was going to be exciting. Now we are a dull defensive based team who play 5-4-1 until we’re losing at half time when we change to 4-4-2 when the damage is already too late to repair. Having said that there are loads of championship games which are a fairly short hop on the train. Bring it on!

I would add that Eddie has just over complicated things. Stacey has been excellent, but our best RB is Smith. Playing players out of position is what you do in an emergency. Rico is a decent forward wing back player as well as a decent defender. I hate the term 'Keep it simple', but when you are fighting a massive battle the last thing you need is overcomplications. I also worry there is an slight desperation creeping in. I keep hearing "let's hope it drops for us". I don't like this. This may explain the gamble of Harry Wilson from the off yesterday? Sure, if we get a set piece in the right place, but as we found out it leaves us open on the counter to any other winger, without the bonus of pace.

What do I know though? I just fear, like many others, there will be nothing to show for all this.

I’m torn when it comes to Eddie’s future. There’s no doubt about it, he has failed miserably this season in pretty much every regard, he has been shown up big time with a slow paced uninspiring brand of football and has not really shown any signs of being able to truly turn the tide. Having said that, if anyone had earned the right to have the opportunity to learn from their mistakes then surely it is Eddie.
Alternatively maybe the sad reality of the situation is that when someone is at the same club for so long it is naturally going to turn stale at some point. Perhaps the time has come where both ourselves and Eddie would benefit from a change. The Eddie I see at the moment strikes me as a broken and worn down figure, can anybody really see this version of Eddie construct and galvanise a very different looking squad to a respectable finish in the championship next season? Maybe he does still have it in him, but I have lost the faith I had that used to be pretty unwavering.

This is my issue. Football is an entertainment business. We have become Stoke or West Brom without the defensive brilliance Pulis gave both of them to stay in the league.

I would have predicted many things for a Howe premier league team including European qualification and relegation before I ever would have predicted we would be non adventurous and tedious to watch. That’s the complete surprise. He had the one thing no other premier league manager has... no expectation to stay in the league... so use it!

The main question is Is it the manager or the players who are to blame for our poor season?

l thought Eddie came across embarrassed in his post match interview.Feel we have gone backwards since the unlucky defeat at Anfield.Eddie stay or go?Really unsure to be honest. He needs to get a reaction from the team on Wednesday l know that though.

How do you know what he will do? Genuine question.

I mean, I don’t know for certain, since I’m not in the management team, but...not to sound corny, but I “have my sources”. Hopefully the collective finger will be pulled out at some point and the question won’t need answering.

Fair enough. Sounds like he’s on his way then because not a chance we survive.
